Title: youth semi-auto 20 ga ideals
Post by: shootemintheface on April 08, 2012, 02:21:24 PM
Any one know where I can get a light recoiling 20 ga with a very short stock and a 3" chamber.  I  would like to find a 20 ga that my 6 yr old can handle.

Not sure about a factory short stock. I bought my wife a Weatherby SA-08 a couple of years ago (she picked it out) and I was suprised how little it actually kicks. She is tall but vey thin and still loves shooting it.  It is also very light, perfect for a young hunter. Not sure if they every came out with a youth version though.

Took an 8 year old yesterday for the va youth day and he shot a gobbler at 12 yards with a Benelli m2 20/ hevi 13 7s.

He had no problems handling it but the barrel was propped by the blind window.

Get the bird inside 15 yards for a very young child and have them hold low.  Very low.  It's hard to miss ;)

Weatherby SA08 youth model. Under 500 bucks, uses the old beretta 390 gas system

Take a look at the Mossberg 500 Super Bantam.  The gun will shoot 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells.  The stock has a spacer that can be taken out to shorten the LOP by a full inch.  The son of a friend of mine has one and it fits him very well and as he grows you can put the spacer back in.
