I did a search for the Best sounding combos of wood for box calls but didn't get a true match.  What are your opinions and why?

It's been my experience and also one of my favorites to run a nice hard walnut lid over yellow poplar.  Walnut or Cherry over Butternut is also a great standard as is Cherry over poplar, and of course another super standby is hard maple or purpleheart over red cedar oh and let's not forget cedar over cypress, or walnut over cypress and so on.  Ya see, a lot depends on what your ear like as a turkey sound that is best...a good call maker will come very close to matching wood combos to the sound--tone, pitch, a lot of rasp or not and so on, to your 'specs'  Not sure if I helped, but send me a PM if you would like more explanation.
