Title: Thinking about switching from lead to Hevishot in my 835?
Post by: Grobec1 on April 03, 2012, 02:17:16 PM
Have a 835 non ported 24" barell with a Stardot choke. Shooting Win. hv 3.5 #6's and the best pattern it shoots is about 126 in a 10" circle and good even coverage. POI is a little low, about 6", from POA. Thinking about switching from lead to Hevishot. How much of an improvement in my pattern do you think I will gain? Do you all think the hevishot is worth it? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

You will gain no doubt. But unless you just want more numbers then Id stick with that. That pattern will defiantely kill a bird any day of the week.

Not unless you're planning on taking shots past 40 yards...and we won't even discuss that.   :D

I would have to say go for it. There is nothing wrong with what you are using but if you have the means and a little extra time to pattern test it is well worth the effort. It may cost a bit till you get it figured out. I would get your POI straightened out before shooting the Hevi shot.

You can double your pellet count.

I switched as well from lead to hevi and I am so glad I did!!  The numbers went up dramatically from the lead.  I shoot Jelly head choke and 3.5 #7's won't switch back to lead!!

Yes. I almost doubled my pellet count with the #7's

You stand to gain alot.  I see you may have some POI issues.  You may need to get another sighting option or you stand to miss a lot too.  At 25 yards your gun with that choke can have a smaller than softball size pattern with few fliers.

HTL is worth it IMO.  In my experience birds are anchored better and flop alot less.
