Title: Question on strikers
Post by: MiamiE on April 03, 2012, 09:04:07 AM
I use a KH Silver Hammer aluminum pot right now with the carbon tip striker. What other strikers should I consider using with the aluminum pot? Any recommendations? I'm also picking up one of Sneeds slate pots soon, and was also wondering what would be some strikers to try with that slate pot? Thanks!

Lonnie Sneeds Hot Hen slate is one of the best out there.
I like Black Locust on both aluminum and slate.
Dogwood, Bloodwood and Ipe would also be good choices.

I have a persimmon striker from Glen Marrer that plays very well on the hot hen slate

Any call maker will make you a striker.
Harold Fowler makes a great one.
I can make you one but it will be about a years wait.

Wow a one year wait! That's when you know you have a great product. I think for now I'll buy some of the brand name strikers to learn with them and then I'll go custom. Thanks for the insight!

I called in over a dozen gobblers last spring using a Lonnie Sneed Hot hen slate and a West Augusta Dogwood striker. I have already called in 4 gobblers this spring with that combo.

Ive gotten strikers from Neal (hooks), Andy Kaiser (Kaiser's Calls)
, and Joe Slaton (Mother Lode) all members of this website this year.. ALL made awesome strikers and I had them in less than a week

I liked Neal's Paduak gobbler stix, if i could only carry one it'd be this one for any surface.

Andy's ivory tip cocolobo is down right amazing but im giving to a good friend as a gift. probably the best striker ive ever used

Joe's dymondwood camo flared tip works great any anything, easy to run and great prices. he's out killing birds now so it might be a little wait if he doesn't have what you want on hand

and Andy's carbon is great too and will take any aluminum to the next level high front with plenty of back end rasp
