Title: Using Decoys
Post by: Yooper on April 02, 2012, 12:04:06 PM
If you use decoys, what's the best set up for them?  I've read where it's best to use just one hen, or a jack and a hen, or a semi-strutter jake with hen(s), or a full strut tom with or without jakes or hens or whatever?  What's worked best for you?

I've called a bunch of turkeys to decoys and the best set up I've seen is a jake behind a hen.  It drives toms crazy.

Strutters work ok if you know you are on a very dominant tom, but they also scare a bunch off at times.  That's the good thing about the jake & hen set up, even two yos will come in mad.

That said, sometimes it's best to go no decoy at all, especially in a high pressure area.

the only 2 decoys set ups I will use are a single jake and a hen or 2.....or 1 or 2 hens by themselves
