Title: Carlson turkey choke tube
Post by: snarer on February 24, 2011, 11:33:46 PM
I'm just wondering if anyone has some experience with this choke tube.  I've got a 12 guage rem 870 with a 3 inch chamber.  Tried patterning some shells, but it didn't turn out to good.  Only got 105 hits in a 10 inch circle at 35 yards with lead #5 shot.  The choke has a .665 constriction.  I also noticed that the 1 3/4 ounce shot patterned better than the 1 7/8 ounce shot.  I don't have a bunch of money to throw around on other chokes so can someone point me to the best shell to shoot through this choke?

H 13 7s your constriction is close, and these shells make any choke look good.. Despite the fact its a blend

If your choke is not ported, I would go with the Fed HW 3" 1 5/8oz #7's. The H-13 #6 or #7's in the 2oz. load should do well too.

I forgot to add that the choke is ported.  I'm just really getting into turkey hunting this year.  Last year I somehow dropped a jake with my modified choke at around 40 yards with a cheap turkey load. :o
