Well I met up with this 11 year old girl and her dad at 5:15 and we were in the blind by 6:00. We heard a few gobbles on the roost but they crossed the river so we went to a new farm. We walked a hung hill and at 11:18 I started calling on my slate call. 4 minutes later, we had a swing and a miss on a jake. She learned a lot but was not sad at all. From there, we hit a different woods and had a hen yelp back to us but walk away. The local milk truck hit his horn and a tom fired up so I was not going to give up. We dogged the hen and kept her talking. The flock finally fed down a hill so we set up right on the edge and I clucked twice and purred. From there it was over. This tom hammered at me and the hens started yelping. I could see the tom 80 yards out strutting and walking towards us. He walked on the bottom of the hill so I got the girl in position and up came the head at 20 yards. I told her to shoot and she said, "that one?" Yes!!!BOOM. She smoked him and was in shock. This young girl is a great young hunter and worked hard all day.
24.5lbs-beard #1 10"-beard #2 6"-3/4 spurs Here are some pictures of her and her dad.
By the way, this is the first time I used my Lights Out slate call that my parents bought for me as a gift. Nice way to break in a new call.
