Title: New...again.
Post by: Turkeyman on March 29, 2012, 11:16:32 AM
It's been quite awhile since I've been here, to the point I had to re-register! Anyhow, no one used-up my old username.

I've got a question right off the bat. We all do pattern testing but how many perform penetration testing? I'm not talking about shooting a piece of plywood but rather something more objective like phone books to see how many pages get penetrated. I've done this in the past but not with these two shells...it's quite enlightening. The reason I ask is that I'm going to buy either Hevi-13s or Win Xtendeds (I've paterned both in the past satisfactorily) but am wondering about penetration at, say, 40 yards. It's nice to know the distance you run out of both pattern density and pellet energy. The Hevis say 1090 fps, the Xtendeds say 1300 fps. Anybody ever do this?

Welcome back BigAl. You may find some info under turkey gun in the pattern section. I have often thought about the same thing . I know some guys shoot phone books that have been soaked in water. I really think shooting a tin can filled with water would be a good test. If you shoot through both sides you wont have any trouble with a turkey head.

I posted this prior to doing any search. Yes, there's some good penetration info there...thanks.
