I see no need for improvement. Shannon, you have the ability to gauge turkey hunters, just like you can gauge a birds temp, always adding something cool for us.
This site is still the finest out there. Hands down! :icon_thumright:

I have been a member here for a while now and love it.  I have never been bashed or questioned on some of my crazy ideas or dreams.  I am a member on other outdoor forums and there are a lot of "pros" that feel they are better when they rip you apart.  Keep screening those who are negative and rude.  I truly feel this is a family who has helped me kill more birds and put more birds in front of first time hunters.  The people here are not turkey hunters first, they are down to earth humans that want to help and then talk turkey.

I'm kinda liking the place.
I think many forums get off on having topics in the right forum but, within reason, I like having fewer forums with more threads to choose from without having to hop around a bunch.
This place is great and I like the fact you let call makers do their thing on here.  It stays remarkably civil as well.   :icon_thumright:

This forum is great! The most effective educational tool I've come accross for sure. I love the fact that there is no bashing on here, and those with strongly opposing opinions are governed by moderators who seem to  have a level head. I've been deterred from other forums after witnessing the constant bashing and insulting of the "less educated". Thanks to all who post here and thanks for allowing me to tag along.

You just pointed out something very vital to the success of this site ,- The total absence of negativity or troublesome people  on this site is key to the sites continued growth  -  Troublesome or negative people on a social site are "member repellent " We have seen it all in 4 years , the members here could not even imagine the rodeo clowns we have dealt with before

The members and the staff here are normal everyday people , like , you me, the guy down the street etc... We encourage a atmosphere where people just be who they are in person face to face  - Normal people like you and me , come here to have a enjoyable time

You also mentioned "pros" --This has been a long on going issue on the internet , especially on the waterfowl  and hunting sites where the practice {prostaff notations} is now starting to be barred from usage in most places  . The flagrant abuse of the term "pro staff" or even " pro guide"is so loosely brandished about on the internet  that it rivals the term "free cell phone minutes" in cell phone speak , to the point it is symbolic in gesture only , meaningless and with out any substance -  There is no "pro staff" University , there is no governing  body out there to ensure that the person who inserted "pro staff" in their sig line ,knows what they are even talking about - Its a disgrace to the hunting industry and the real professionally endorsed hunters out there  -

The thought pattern by those masquerading as a "pro staffer" is to constantly crave peer approval   , code for   "loudmouth bashing keyboard jerk"  they engage in this behavior of bashing others to make themselves look better , and to buttress up their phoney on line persona they work so hard on - we are normal people here , we don't have time for the keyboard antics of these folks , bye bye, to them --

Now back to the Improvements , I have some ideas that I will be rolling out in the callmakers sections in the near future to make the area more beneficial to folks wanting to sell calls here , as you may know a ton of calls sell on the site each year and we are proud of being able to assist in that area

The only thing that I think would be cool, is if (and maybe I can already do this, but don't know how) a person could subscribe to a thread now and then. Then if you wanted to go back later
and read up on further comments etc.. you wouldn't have to go thru the search function.
But, by far, this is a great site, and thanks for all you do. :happy0064:

Very well said Shannon...can't agree more!!  Love the site and the 'vibe'!!

I can think of one thing I would like to see more of...there already is a place for it but I would like to see a more specific 'calling' section.  Especially in the area of how to talk to turkeys...I know I and prolly some of the newer members/hunters would like an 'instructional' calling area.  Tips and techniques kinda...make sense??

Thanks for the opportunity to voice an opinion!

Like it the way it is. If my employer knew how much time I spent on here I'd be missing a good piece of my butt.

The only suggestion I might make would be a youth hunter section. Us members with kids could try and get our children more involved with it. As a father with young kids I'd feel very safe with my children visiting this site.

Shannon,

I thoroughly enjoy this site and the real sense of friendliness that I feel here. This is due, in no small part, to your marshaling of the exchanges and content, and the weeding out of those who would sow discord. Well done.

I have one small suggestion. I like how you have different colored areas to show separate posts on a subject. Could you lighten the darker area just a little to provide better contrast between the background and the text? This would make it a little easier to read.

Thanks.

I am a fairly new member to the site, and think it is fantastic.  It is my contention that the various forum segments are a great way to find opinions on topics that are of interest to me.  However, the debates on whether a topic belongs in one forum or another get a bit tedious.  I am specifically talking about the gun forum and the pattern picture forum.  These two topics are inseparably linked, and in many cases could be in either forum. Great debates occur among posters as to which forum a particular post belongs and the original question or topic is never discussed.  If this could be either better explained as to where something should be posted, or if the post is just move it to another area by you or your designate (I do realize the time commitment of this) I believe would be a benefit to the Forum in general.

I like it the way it is.  It's has become my favorite place on the web over the past few months.  No nonscence, Healthy debat in an adult manner, not a bunch of  "false credentials" just a bunch of people from several walks of life with the comon bond of turkey hunting.  We agree to disagree on oppinions and educate each other on the facts.

As far as changes some cosmetics could be in order if your inclined to do such but I like the ease of navigation through out the site.

Love this site!   :you_rock:

I do think it would be beneficial to have an "Events" section (if it's here, I haven't found it).  It would be a good place for members to post info on banquets, conferences, competitions, trade shows, etc.  I'd love to have a better pulse on the events taking place in the turkey community around the country.  Perhaps there is even a way for members to post these events to an OG calendar???

We are planning annual face lift to the site , and a upgrade in the version , we have to test it out first  but  as soon as Annie gets freed up with some time we will get it done

There were some changes I was going to make to the classifieds , to make it more beneficial for everyone , with some perks  - and stream line and overhaul the classifieds  - this will be down the road

This site is the best!  Great info!  No Bashing because of conflicting opinions.  And I Throughly agree with the 50 post limit for viewing or selling in the classifieds.  It definitely keeps out the RIF RAF!
I have to say a BIG THANK YOU for all the time and effort you and your staff put into this.  I have learned so much from EVERYONE on this GREAT SITE.  I think I speak for everyone, THANKS SO MUCH!

I love OG!  Being connected with other turkey hunting fanatics is wonderful.  The site is useful, easy to navigate, and best of all civil.

The only thing I could see would be a Turkey Kill/Harvest thread or "Braggin' Board" for pictures and stories of the hunt.  This would free up the General forum a lot.  I love seeing pictures and reading stories of kills but I also love reading the "normal" general forum topics as well.

All in all, this is a great site!

I love this place year around and especially during turkey season. I have learned much on here, especially tips on calls, shotgun loads and chokes. I have met some great friends on here too. I would like to see a dedicated turkey kill thread, separate from the general discussion. I would also love to see an annual OG biggest gobbler contest, but for an individual score, based on the same scoring system as the team scoring. The prize package could be something like the bingo winners recieve, with only members with 100 posts allowed to enter before the seasons start. It would be fun to see all the big birds scored and watching someone getting crowned the OG Stutter of the Year. There could be one overall winner and smaller prizes for the longest beard, total beard(s) length, spur length and the heaviest bird. If necessary, I am sure everyone would throw in a few dollars to pay for some nice prizes, like an entry fee, or maybe some of our wonderful sponsors could help out. It would be alot of fun to watch the leaderboard throughout the Spring seasons.

First thought I couldn't think of anything, but actually do have a suggestion. It would be nice if the original poster could delete the entire thread in the Classifieds when something sells. Probably a third of the posts I click on, you read to the end of the thread, and find the item is no longer for sale.

I like Bob's Idea on this one......believe it or not! :TooFunny: I know it has been discussed before but I'd also love to see more of the kids hunts. If the "turkey kills" were segmented into a child board, I'd like to see a youth section possible too. I love to see the kids smile with their birds.

Another suggestion would be in the call makers section. There seems to be more and more people interested in call making here recently and I think thats great. A lot of them are asking the same questions over. Maybe a FAQ section could be put in. Before the big crash, there were quite a few good pictorials and tutorials that were posted for new call makers. If we could add a child board for that as well, maybe we could get some more posted up to help out some of the new guys. Just a thought.

It would be nice to be able to embed youtube videos instead of having to click on links to view peoples hunts. Or if we do have that ability, I haven't figured it out yet. Other than that, well done!

I did not read through all the posts, so if this has been said, feel free to delete, ignore, or whatever.

How about a state section, each state can have it's own forum that way we can ask state specific questions or even get together to hunt.  Archertalk has this feature with each state forum under a main link of "States" so the main page is not cluttered.

Just a thought.

I haven't been on the site for very long, but have enjoyed it so far.  Also, Angry Bird's sensitive manner of moderating if he feels I am trying to derail a topic was a real draw as well.   :angel9:

Seriously, this site was brought to my attention by some guys that told me this place was as ate up about turkey hunting as I was, and they relayed several stories about folks willing to go out of their way to help other hunters out.  I feel I can come here and share some info and get some as well.

We did away with the sold items for two reasons

1) it took too much time to monitor it each day

2) keeping them all in the same area actually helped the sellers reputation , because all his good prior transactions were right there for the members to inspect - this helps sells items, and helps the callmaker/seller build up a good reputation

all the seller has to do is mark it "SOLD" and all is well

I'm not a big fan of a bunch of forums.  I don't mind a few busy ones as opposed to having to surf through half a dozen specialty forums.  I think you have enough different forums now.
This place has done well keeping drama out and general conversation in, with plenty of turkey talk for anyone. :icon_thumright:

If Lovett is MIA, the next best Turkey Doctor I know is Dr. James Dickson. He's written a few books and his Wild Turkey Biology book is known as the "Turkey Bible" for many grad students. He is still the head of wildlife at Louisiana Tech and he was my major professor. I can contact him if Shannon or Mr Bird would be interested.

I don't see anything that needs to be improved. Site is doing just fine and has a large group of good people who share in a common love which is hunting and a willingness to help others who are looking for answers. That sharing in my opinion is what make a site successful.

I'm a Tech graduate and my best friend graduated from the Forestry/Wildlife program.

I'm still lovin' it! and it's a great place to be  ;D.. A kids board is an awesome idea. Maybe a slug shooters board for the deer hunters. Such as Guns/ammo/groups etc.

Thank You O.G

I'm a year 'round OG "Junkie" and personally I think you've left very little room for improvement.
What I really like is it doesn't matter if you're a newbie or a 50 year hunting veteran, this group welcomes you with open arms.

Oh yeah just wanted to let everyone know that I made "pro-staff" for BBTG............
