anybody have any ideas for making weights for the lead sled plus to buy the oem bags and lead will be very pricey...any alternatives...?
We filled gallon bags up with sand and it works fine. Another buddy of mine cut the bottom 12-15 inches off some old blue jeans and had his grandmother sew the ends up. They are filled with sand too.
I bought two cheap 5 pound ankle weights at Wally World and they work perfect. No mess, no fuss and 10 pounds is perfect for the lead sled as you don't want too much weight holding the sled down or you could damage your stock of your gun as you need some give.

I just use some homemade sandbags made from old pants legs (mom sewed them for me ;D) they weigh about 16 lbs. each so just one bag was all I needed to weigh it down. All it cost me was a bag of playsand at Lowes.

The ankle weights is a good idea. He is absolutely right about not putting too much weight there as well!
I was with a friend at the range and he screwed his lead sled to the shooting table with a battery powered drill. Luckily the wood was weaker on the bench than his stock. The screws pulled out after just a couple shots! If the action had come out of the stock that would have resulted in a serious injury!

I went to a local sporting goods store that sells used equipment and bought a 25 lb. weight for like 10 bucks. You don't won't to put much more weight than that, it puts a lot of pressure on your stock.
Whats a lead sled? I'm thinking something that goes down a mountain of snow but I don't think that is right.

I started to melt down a bunch of old tire weights into a solid brick, but my buddy had an old 20 lb barbell plate that he didn't need so I use it instead. The Sled is a shoulder saver for sure, between 3 turkey guns and a 300 wsm I had to have one.

HARDEST PART IS SEWING THEM.. BUT MAYBE U CAN GET SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT
Sandbags would probably be pretty effective, we use bags of lead shot though just because we shoot alot of trap and therefore already have bags of shot on hand but yeah I could see where that would be expensive if you didn't reload lol. I remember when we could buy a bag for $11 now its $40 or $50 >:(
