Title: Truth 23......weird to me
Post by: savduck on March 14, 2012, 10:30:17 PM
The last 5 or 6 years Ive been picking up the truth videos. Bout the best one left out there. Anyway Wally world had this one for 6.96 so i got it.

Couple things just struck me as odd.

1. No Will, only 1 with Brad.
2. Hardly any Mossy Oak. They were wearing the heck out of the Realtree
3. The Video footage looked walleyed and to bright at times.

Kinda sad, now even the "Truth" Series is going down the tube

Hate to hear that. That has been my favorite video series for years. To be honest I think it started when they got involved with the Double Bull Blinds and their crew. The Truth 22 kind of made me think that it was heading this way.

It's all about tv too now guys.  Everything is done for the tv show and they don't worry about putting out the quality dvd anymore...not just primos, it's going that way in all hunting arenas.  With Outdoor Channel, Sportsmans Channel, Wild TV, etc., the dvd market is going downhill.  Lot's of waterfowl companies have stopped making them all together and just focus on the weekly tv show.  Primos had a run for a couple of years, with Realtree back in the 90s...maybe they're slowly switching up again.  I'll admit, the new one wasn't one of their best.  I really miss the old ones with the mossy oak crew, chuck jones, david blanton(yep, Mr. Realtree was on an early Truth, as well as ol chuck jones), and Mark Drury(how many remember the Primos "MAD" Cutter call from several years ago?).  I think we're slowly seeing the end of the dvd market.  I think I heard recently that knight and hale are done making them now too.  Hate to hear it, especially for the guys that only get one of the channels that carry the good shows.  Seems like they all seem to be headed toward Sportsmans Channel now...guess what, I don't get that one...haha.

Everything from the last Truth DVD got played on the TV show anyway.  Is it the same with this one?

I don't like the new ones either. I'll pull out the old school VHS tapes and watch them every now and then. I've got them all and need to get around to converting them to DVD's.

I just bought it a few days ago and I was really disappointed. The majority of the hunts they were just plugging for the new blind and bow. They had some new faces but like mentioned before, no Will or Brads daughter.

I was also disappointed with it....don't understand all the blind hunts....very few eastern hunts.  Don't even think they did any AL hunts this time.  No Brad and Will...it was strange!  Maybe better next year.

Most hunting shows are a disappointment. Shame..

I agree it's like night and day from the earlier days.  I think #1 through #5 are the best.  I watched 1 & 2 as I usually do each spring.  I too miss the old hunts for Easterns in the woods.  You would think being based in MS, they would have more.   I guess they figure they can rack up a lot of kills for video out west. I may be wrong, but didn't Will actually sell the company a couple years ago?

I finished it today and have too agree with all the above.  No wonder it was only 7 bucks.  Best turkey videos I have seen in a while are the zink 24/7 turkey time.  No big sponser names yet.

I have the TRUTH 1, 2, and 3. They are pure gold.

I think what separates the old days from now was

- Everyone on the team (not just the guys on video) had a true passion for turkey hunting. Everyone went the extra mile to get the best footage. This really comes through on screen.

- It was all about man vs turkey. One of my favorite hunts from the video was where Chuck Jones and Will Primos chased a gobbler they named "Fred" over the course of several hunts. Eventually they outsmarted him with some slick calling tactics. THAT'S what makes a good hunting video. Now its all about how they used some new product to kill a bird, not the skill that went into it.

- They showed the "imperfect hunts". There were always lots of misses and kill shots that were off film due to the situation. These days, if there isn't five minutes of footage of a gobbler strutting beside a decoy, it doesn't make the cut. We all know it does't always happen like that. I'd rather see a hunt where the gobbler hung up and the hunter belly crawled the last 40 yds to kill him, even if the kill wasn't on film. That's how it happens in the real world, and that's what makes turkey hunting fun!

You can't blame Will for all of it. He's probably about tired of carrying a camera, and deserves to spend a few years with just his family and friends in the woods. But it's a shame that the essence of what made them a great company and what made so many of us the loyal customers we have been over the years, has been lost to a new generation.

I think someone at PRIMOS should get back to "The TRUTH" about spring turkey hunting!
