Title: Broken calls
Post by: gwa on March 13, 2012, 02:31:48 PM
I am sure a lot of people have broken a call or two, does anyone on here specialize in it?

I have had slates come loose. I had a nice box call that was put into a back pack and got the sides of the box snapped off when it got crunched against a tree.

Thanks,

Denny

I suggest that you try to contact the call maker and see if he can repair the call or make it right by you and send you another call. If its a production call, your probably out of luck.

I will share a little personal experience with you that I had this past year.  Last March,  I purchased a crystal surfaced call from Andy Kaiser and I hunted with that call during the WV season.  Well during July I pulled it out to play on it a while and noticed it was cracked all the way across.  I sent it back to him and he replaced the cracked crystal with a brand new piece of crystal and after having it back for 2 days it had cracked again.  I sent it back to him and we decided having another cracked crystal wasn't worth the time or the postage so he scrapped the whole pot and made me a brand new pot with bronze glass instead of crystal.  I hope that the call wont crack this summer, but I bought a dehumidifier to help remove moisture so we'll see.

Point is if you contact the maker of your call that call maker should replace or repair your call if they are worth their salt.  Customer service is what sells calls.

yeah woodhaven has replaced one on mine 2x for it cracking. Also have one from Lonzo calls that is warrantied as long as he is alive. most of the time a good call maker will make it right depending on how it cracked but even then some are good enough to replace it either way.

I generally replace a few glass surfaces each spring.  I had a customer send one back in a cherry pot a couple of weeks ago.  In my rush over the weekend (a week ago), I replaced the glass surface and sent the call back.  He called a few days later and told me he had asked that I put slate in to keep from having the issue again... DOH!!!

I took his name and address and turned him a cherry slate call last Saturday at no charge.  He should have it tomorrow.
