I goit myself a tube call, nothing special and made out of mahogany. But what I want to know is how to tune it. Is it just trial and error until it sounds about right or is there a rule of thumb for the distance between reed and mouthpiece? What about the tension on the latex? Where's the best place to get different thicknesses of latex? Thanks for all replies in advance.
Most of it is trial and error. Once you get the hang of it you can tell when it's going to be too tight or too loose. I like mine with a little arch in the center of the latex. If it's too high pitch when you try it just pull up the latex in the middle. The will loosen the latex a little. You can get some pieces of latex from pioneerturkeycalls.com. Good luck,

When stretching it across, I usually stretch it nearly 1/4" and then pull the top up until you have a slight arch.
