Title: Kansas public land hunt
Post by: Jer42 on March 09, 2012, 07:16:56 PM
I've decided I want to try Kansas next spring. I know a lot of guys don't want to give out their secret hunting spots, but I have a few questions about where to go. I would like to stay in a cabin at one of the Kansas State Parks. Was wondering if anyone could tell me which state parks have a good amount of public land around to hunt with a decent amount of turkeys. I would like to be in a spot with Rio's. I've checked the hunting atlas but its a little hard to comprehend how much land is there to hunt. Was looking at Wilson State Park? What time of season has the least hunting pressure?

Thanks to any replys!! This will be the first time turkey hunting outside of Illinois for me.

Don't know Wilson, but Lovewell has cabins and pretty good number of Rios.  Avoid Memorial weekend!  I have always hunted northern KS in May with good luck.  Get an atlas and check out WIHA ground too.  If I remember right, there is WIHA ground straight north of Lovewell, almost in Nebraska that has birds.

Kansas gets hammered by hunters, especially north Kansas.  There are turkeys all over, just find some public ground and get some maps.  You will find birds if the weather cooperates.
Good Luck
