Title: cleaning rod question
Post by: joker on March 05, 2012, 09:52:22 AM
Does anyone know where I could find a cheep cleaning rod that takes the large threads that are on the shotgun cleaning brushes. I need one for polishing. I keep breaking those adaptors that adapt the large threads down to the small threads on the universal rods.

Thanks, steve

I use a wooden dowel about 3/8" in diameter. The tricky part is finding a very straight one, then cutting a neat notch that does not break out to hold the scotch brite.

At Walmart just find the kit for shotguns, it has the "big rod" in it. It is a three piece rod.

Try the Birchwood Caseys "Barrel Boss".  I love mine. $16  comes with an aluminum rod and a full lenth bore mop.  The aluminum rod is threaded for the brushes and other mops.  Works great.

Thanks guys, I will check out the ones at dicks and walmart tonight. Hopefully these "big rods" Have the 5/16 27 threads and don't take the 5/16-27 to 8-32 adaptor. The adaptors are what I was breaking.

Tipton makes a shotgun rod it has the large threads and you can use Hoppes brushs or bore mops no adaptor needed.

The cheap 3 piece with the handle cut off work great for polishing with a drill.  You can also make a bore guide with a spent hull.  Knock out the primer and drill the right size hole for the rod.
