may be a dumb question but is it ok to shoot some light bird shot loads through my turkey choke to check poa before patterning my $6 shells

Yep that's the best thing to do. Use them at 10 yards to get it tuned in the try 20 to see where you are.

I will say yes.. It will get you close.. But you might have to get closer.. and you will save some of them high dollar shells.
