Title: Help identifying older hevi 5's please
Post by: gersus on March 03, 2012, 06:20:28 PM
It was windy and cool today so I went on a quest to find old hevi loads, you know, the good ones. It's tough to find hevi shot around here at all let alone the good stuff. I only found two boxes, a box of #4's and a box of #5's. I bought the #5's even though I'd much rather have 6's or 7's. The box looked worse than many 50 year old boxes so I thought may e they'd be good loads. Hopefully someone here can give me some info based on the photo and lot #. Lot # is 100132

Thanks!

I bought 2 boxes of that very same shell/load a while back
it shot great out of my 835 and either the .676 stardot or the .679 Truglo GS
wish I could find some more

The problem I see is the 1.75oz payload. I tried some 1.75oz 6's last year and they were crap.

The old white Hevi 13s (3") are 1 3/4oz 1090fps in 4s. 5s and 6s.  They shoot so well for many they have an almost cult following.  Most prefer the 6s.  I am surprised to see a 1 3/4oz load in a 3 1/2" shell.  Never owned a 3 1/2" gun.  Is that a standard shell color for 3 1/2"?
