Title: Shepherds Crook.
Post by: redarrow on March 03, 2012, 11:03:41 AM
I would like to make a shepherd's crook as a gift to my Pastor.  Any suggestion on type of wood and how to bend the crook so it doesn't snap ?

I know you're supposed to split the wood down the grain with an axe and not with a saw.  There are several videos on youtube that explain it.  Also a very good episode on "the New Yankee Workshop" where steam bending is featured.

I have done a little steam bending and ash steams and bends really nice. Most of your wood frame snowshoes are ash for that very reason

Maybe I can scout for a young ash sapling when I'm turkey scouting.
