Here's a new trumpet I came up with today. After watching "Woodturning Workshop with Tim Yoder" on PBS yesterday I got an idea for a new trumpet. Tim was making a "Captive Ring Goblet" where he turned a goblet that had a captive ring turned within the stem. I decided to give it a shot and after a few hours of work in the shop here it is. The barrel is made from African Blackwood and has an ivory mouthpiece. It took quite a bit longer than my usual design but it was worth it. Sometimes it's just fun to make something totally different.
I had to sacrifice a small allen wrench to cut in behind the ring and free it up from the rest of the wood. It was a real pain in the butt to sand it and apply finish.

That is crazy good. How in the world did you do that? Does it make any noise or clang when it moves?
