Title: Star Dot choke
Post by: turkeyhunter87 on February 29, 2012, 10:13:04 AM
I found this choke in my gun closet last night. I would not think twice about it if I had not seen so much about a star dot on this forum. It fits a 500 mossberg. This is not my primary turkey gun but I would like to see how it patterns. Any suggestions on shells to try??

I'd be HAPPY to test it for you!  Send it to me and I'll put a few different loads through it on my 1300.  Can't guarantee you'll ever see it again though.

I shoot one from an old 5500 Mossberg.  Mine likes 5's and 6's in Winchesters.  It throws a great turkey killing pattern with any of Winchesters gray box or black box loads.  Mine also did good with the Federal 3-2-6 FC loads.  I never counted the numbers on that gun but I know it shot circles around my 870.

Man that looks familiar! I use one on my Mossy. Some cheap shells don't pattern well no matter what choke. As said above, Hevi 3-2-7's are great loads. Mine even shoots Federal HW with the flight control wad well which surprises me since its ported.

3" H13 2oz loads, Old Whites, Win Grey box 6s, Win HV, and the Pre FC Feds do quite well in that choke in either of my 1300s.

Thanks for the input. I am going to try and gather a few of these shells and shoot when the weather clears this weekend.

I have one in my Mossberg 500. It shoots Win Ext Range really good. I have not tried any other HTL load through it.

Completely forgot about the XRs spurcollector, the 3" 6s thru mean patterns in that choke. They were still over 100 at 50yds.

I have been shooting Ext Range #5's. I got several boxes of these on sale at Wal-Mart a few year back. I get about 150 in 10'' at 40yrds. I got me a box of #6 this year but have not shot them yet.
