Title: couple of questions
Post by: MouthCaller on February 28, 2012, 10:21:23 AM
I have a few questions for you guys and any comments would be appreciated... Frist off I am in need of a new turkey gun for this season and Im trying to keep price in mind, so with that Im looking at buying a 535 Mossberg, yes Im sure the 3 1/2'' will kick like a mule but Im a big boy and I can handle it lol, any expierience with the 535? I know thats not much of a question it shouldnt be any different from my old 500 I was shooting last year but option 2 with the gun situation is to pay off a lawaway gun Ive got and thats a Win SX3 that I owe about $800 before it is my own. Is it worth spend the extra money now and shooitng the SX3 vs the 535? The load I plan on shooting is the Hevi-13 3 1/2'' #5 and that is my question, what expierience have you had with the Hevi-13? I have always been a 3'' #5 Win Supreme shooter and they work great but I havent got to pattern the Hevi-13 that I bought on sale. Thanks for your time.

I would spend a little bit more and get the 835, the patterns are a lot better due to the 10ga bore. I would also recommend shooting hevi13 6's or 7's to get the best of shooting a HTL load. Hope this helps

Spend the extra money and payoff the SX3 and enjoy the gun now rather than the M gun.  It only makes sense to get what you want than to rather settle for something cheaper.

Pay off the one in layaway first.

Both the 535 and SX3 are good guns. They'll both work to kill turkeys. I'd be happy taking either to the turkey woods.

I'd make whatever choice is most comfortable to you right now. You'll do fine with either.

Hevi-13, in my experience, is the most consistent shotshell on the market today. I shoot both the #6 and #7 shot shells but since you have the #5 shot already, that's what I'd shoot. It may not pattern quite as well as the other sizes but again, it will certainly kill turkeys.

A lot of our success in the turkey woods and fields has to do with our familiarity with our equipment and confidence in it. If we know how it shoots and how we can shoot it, that gives us confidence to take the shot.

I'd encourage you to spend some time at the range with whatever gun you choose and then have fun this spring.

Thanks,
Clark

Wow does Hevi-13 in the #6 and #7 really work that well? Ive shot #5 forever but never in the Hevi...
