I just purchased a used 835 UltraMag from local gun shop here in town. The intent was to have a dedicated Turkey gun. Before I shot the gun I decided to run a patch thru it. It was filthy. To make a long story short I spent several days trying to get the bore of this gun clean. Everytime I would run the brush thru I would get more fouling. I even attached the brush to my drill motor and ran that several times. I have used Hoppes and a foaming bore cleaner and still cannot get this gun clean. I am a bit upsset at the local gun shop for not having this in better shape when they sold it. does anyone have any suggestions on getting this clean.
Get you some Bore Tech Eliminator and buy you some KROIL. Mix it half and half in a little squirt bottle and squirt it on your brush. Keep doing this for about 5 applications. Then patch clean. I think you will be pleased.
Look up top at the stickied topics and check out the thread about Polishing your bore. Follow those steps and you will have an amazing looking barrel. Yes, I'd recommend that you take a look at this article http://allaboutshooting.com/article_info.php?articles_id=282 and pay some special attention to the "temperature" and "time" portions. Many times we do not allow the Hoppe's to work by allowing enough time for it to soak. If you have a warm space to do this messy work, that also helps.
Soak, scrub, soak & scrub over time is the key.
I do understand. My 935 barrel had baked-in Cosomoline from some long-term storage and patience was the key.

Thanks Everyone These are some really great suggestions. I think I will start with the Soaking with hoppe's and some patience, if that does not do the trick I'll try the polish route (may even do this once I do get it clean)
