Title: older 835 ulti mag
Post by: pseshooter300 on February 27, 2012, 03:35:23 PM
I got a older 835 ulti mag that I have had for probably 10 years has the old style camo on it green and black. I just have the factory choke in it but would like to know what you all would recommend for this gun. It has a 28" barrel. It shoots good I have killed turkeys with it but would like to get a choke for it.

All good recomendations!  Fyi...your 10 year old 835 isn't really THAT old. ;D  In fact, except for the LPA trigger, they haven't really changed at since 1994.

What you plan to shoot through it will make some difference. I've shot h13 through the IC and the JH. Both work well. the IC will have a super tight pattern at those close ranges, the JH will open it up a little but won't have the big numbers at 40yds. Been hearing good things about the hevi13 choke tube

All of those work well. I have a Stardot in mine and I wouldn't trade it for any other choke. They haven't made them in a while and they are sort of hard to find. reflexl

tru glo ssx is a cheap choke but it throws a tight pattern out to 40 with 3.5" hevi 7s or a stardot if you can find one

Well if that is the woodland camo pattern your gun is older than that.  The Moss 835 was introduced in 1987 and was the very first 3.5" chambered shotgun.  They started I think making the 835 in the woodland camo around 1990 or right about.  Then they started switching to other camo patterns but I don't know for sure the date or for how long the run before other camo patterns started to be introduced.  They even made these with different style forearms.  The original 835 model was a blued wooden stock gun.

Is this the shot gun you have?

Notice the forearm difference on this one.  And I think this was even the older original synthetic model.

thats probably a 94 or 95 model. put yourself a .675 carlsons (ported or non ported) or a truglo SSx .670. Both are very resonable priced and will put close to the 300 mark with hevi#7.
