Title: Choke selection help!
Post by: Philippe on February 26, 2012, 09:48:20 PM
Ok guys i am trying to figure out this Rem 870 20ga as quickly as possible. I prefer to shoot lead at a max distance of 30 yards. Today i tried the RSF(hevi ok model) and a Carlsons extended turkey and both results were not enough to get me comfortable to take a shot at 30 yards. I have access to a Hastings .562 but have not tried it yet. This gun has a 26" barrel and i have only shot the Winchester Supreme HV 3" 5's both 1 1/4 and 1 5/16oz 5's .

Any suggestions?

I would try the hastings with the loads you have. You should also try the federals with the fc wad in all the chokes. I have a hastings .562 in my 870, but haven't tried any lead loads through it. I get an average in the 170's in the 10" at 40 with the federal hw #7's though.

I'll second that on trying the Federal FC shells

That Hastings .562 is a shooter with lots of shells, especially the Federals.  Sumtoy makes one that is very similar to the same results.

Look up Ray (sugarray) on here...he shoots the hastings in his 20 and can give you more info.
