I really fell like an idiot for asking this but I am anyways. With hooks calls does the little bump go up against the roof of your mouth or down.
The bump goes against the roof of your mouth with the split reed laying on your tongue. You want the split reed to vibrate when the air passes over it causing the sound.
Thanks
If you are talking about the bump at the back end of the horsehoe it goes down on your tongue. The longest reed is up toward the roof of your mouth. If there is a 1/2 reed on top it will go up towards the roof of your mouth.

All of them except the devastator sound pretty good when I run them like this, but they are really raspy. The devastator wont make a sound when I run it like this, but the tape is a little boogered up on it though. I think Im gonna call them monday and see if they will send me another one.
On most mouth calls you can flip them upside down and usually get a softer clear yelp. I usually flip mine over to coyote howl. Get a hold of Scott he will take care of you.

TRKYHTR,
I sent you a PM for some more information on the technique you use because I'm confused as well.
I want to try your technique so I can improve my calling and obtain more versatility.
