I can't wait a couple of weeks to go.
Lets hear how your scouting is going and how your season is looking.
I went out last weekend to listen for some Gobblers, in one of the spots I have to hunt, but did not hear any. I am in Florida and the weather has been warm, 70's and 80's everyday, but still not hearing any birds. They should be gobbling soon.
I am going out again in the morning to another area I have a couple of hunts at this year and see if I can locate a few gobblers.
John
Have 4 big gobblers lined up, in a pasture they use year around. The landowner watched me hunt every day I was there this fall. When I took my bird in December, she was on the phone letting her husband know. My dad knew before I had a chance to send him pics. Ever since then, she scouts and tells me the time of day they are there, need to get her a good gift. Birds could be starting before too long here, mildest winter I can remember, probably less than 30 days of ponds frozen all waterfowl season, 50s and 60s upcoming week, ready to get em knocked down.
Headed to a Florida property to help a friend scout at daylight tomorrow. I expect to hear some gobbling...will report later.
Havent got a chance to get out yet. But gonna do a lil bit of scouting tomorrow and next weekend. Time to hit it hard till March 31st.
Went out this morning. I had nothing but bad luck.
I could not get into the woods until after daylight, a hunter never came out of the woods. They had an all night search, helicopters and everything. He was within half a mile of the area I scouted.
Ends up he left last night and never checked out. They had over a dozen people looking for him a couple of helicopters. Some people just don't think.
Needless to say the birds where not gobbling. I did find some pretty woods, tracks, scat and dusting areas.
Will try to get out again next weekend. My sons youth hunt is 2 weeks from today, I CAN NOT WAIT!
John
Heard nothing and saw nothing this morning. Temp had dropped 30 deg from yesterday and the wind was pretty strong.
Glad it wasn't one of my spots we were scouting :)
I am not sure how the story got so mixed up. They found that hunter dead, who was lost in the woods I was scouting Saturday, today.
Apperently he died from medical issues,l I think diabetes.
I am going to try and make it back out there this weekend and locate some birds.
My hunting buddy checked another area we hunt, but the birds where tight lipped.
John
Havent been out yet but I have been seeing alot of birds driving by my wmas :z-guntootsmiley:
Headed out in the morning rain or shine. Unless its a down pour lol
Still early for me to scout my hunting spots, have been seeing a lot of birds while driving around though.
Went out this morning and heard 3 gobble on the roost. Seen all kinds of crap and scratching, and one dust bowl. Looking good in that spot. Winter flock still not busted good there though. Had those three gobblers roosted good ways off the big hen flock.
I went this morning and heard 6 diffrent birds gobbling. Despite the wicked weather! Lots and lots of sign. I CANT WAIT! :turkey2:
We just got a whole nother dose of winter up here. I won't be out scouting for at least two but most likely not for another three weeks here. Birds are hanging pretty tight yet.
Hope everyone is staying safe with the weather. Had our episode a few nights ago. Went from 70 degrees yesterday to heavy snow this morning. More birds than I remember seeing in a while, hope I can get permission to hunt a few of them. :turkey2:
Went out this morning again, stil no birds gobbling. The check station lady said, that no one is hearing them gobble.
It is very strange with the warm weather we are having. Did find some fresh tracks and a beautiful bottom land to hunt. Put out a camera, but will not be able to check it until the first day of my hunt.
Might try a different peice of property tomorrow.
Havnt had another chance to get back out pulled 40 straight hours on storm damage this weekend! Look to be out this weekend after some much needed sleep catching up.

You seeing any birds in mcminnville?
Taking my son out in the morning for the youth hunt. Hopefully we can get on birds.
I have a hunt there next weekend, so hopefully I can locate some more birds.
Good luck to your son, shoot 'em up. Wanna see some good pics tomorrow. :fud: :OGani:
Hope your son has a safe and fun hunt!
Good luck :z-guntootsmiley:
We heard a couple gobble at 1st light. They where way off, so we stayed put.
My son said he heard a couple more gobble, his ears are a lot better than mine.
We are going to slide in closer to one of the birds in the morning. I just need a little action to get him into it.
John
Good Luck !!!!
If it was not for bad luck we would have had none. We had a flat tire, had to change that.
It was not supposed to rain, it did. We had hunters walk up on us. The wind blew like crazy.
My son is 15 years old and he can not sit still for a second; except for when he fell asleep. The fact that he is moving and making noise did not help us at all, but I wanted him to enjoy the hunt so I did not say anything to him.
Hopefully he had fun and we got to spend some great time together.
Today we heard and saw nothing. When we left no one had taken a bird. At least I have a little more info for next Saturday, which is my opener.
Good luck to everyone and be safe.

You spent valuable time with your son! Get him back out there for the opener next weekend.
Me and the gf went this morning. Weather channel showed rain stoppin at 7 and daylight at 730, so we set out. Got 4/10 of mile from the truck when we stopped to listen and I heard a wing tip against a tree. Turned to see him blowed up on a limb not 70 yards away. Easily slid on our masks and plopped down. Perfect timing for the rain that wasnt supposed to be there lol. We got out of there quick but still got soaked. Ill be back in there scouting him next weekend as well.
I checked some private land today and never heard nothing,or see any sign. Looks like public land for me. I left my scouting camera just in case there is some movement between now and opening day.
April 25 can't get here fast enough. I went out to a new piece of land I plan to hunt this year just to take a listen. Oh my gosh there were birds in every direction. It was hard to keep track of which bird was which but there was at least seven different gobblers firing of on the roost this morning. Two of them were for sure roosted on the private land next door so I am going to go see if I can get permission to hunt that land later today.
I am going to take my boys (7 and 9) out later this morning to a piece that I hunted last year to see if we can find any sign there. They have been up for about 45 minutes already had breakfast and are heading out to get their rooms cleaned so we can go. If I didn't know any better I would think they were excited.
The birds are finally starting to move around more here. In just the last two days I have seen three different flocks on my morning commute. Two of them in areas I have never seen before. Looks like I will be knocking on some doors in the next few days to get some access.
27 days left
Season opens for us volunteers Saturday! Headed out in the morning to listen, think dad has great chance to bust one and I'll have the gf with me trying for her first as well gonna be a great weekend!
Good luck with the birds everybody. Finally found a few birds where I can hunt, and a few places where my nephew can hunt only during the youth season. Not gonna be the easiest birds to get, but taking him out on Sunday to see if we can get it done.
Birds were hammering this morning. Checked the spot where me and the gf are going in the morning and the birds have move a little piece but still there gobbling on the ground too. Swung by and checked a spot for josh and had a bird gobble twice on the ground. Finally swung through and checked on dads bird and he wasnt in the field but there was two in the holler behind the field hammering at every single little sound. They were defiantely hot!
Good luck jarbo03 and Trevor.
I have one question for Trevor, whats a holler? :TooFunny:
lol,
John
That's the thing the crik runs through. :)
I love the way we talk in the southeast!!
