If you could only take one call in the woods turkey hunting what would it be and why?
Wingbone.......reason being, watch how many replies you will receive with similar answers..........the wingbone won't be as popular as diaphrams, slates, etc.
A Hooks Sassy Gal 2
A Glass pot call and only because I feel I can run it better than any I own and Im confident in it .
Hooks persuader! Unless it's real windy I can normally get a response out a ol gobbler with it.
K&H Slatek with a Mad Calls purpleheart striker. Most of my birds have been taken with this call.
Wingbone. Lot of pressure where I hunt and not many people use them
Good ol Ashby Gobbler box. Sweet hen on one side, gobbler yelps on other, andcan gobble with it too.
one call huh? Hooks executioner because its versatile
Brian Mero trumpet. I can play it well and most birds haven't heard it before. One of the most realistic calls you will hear in the woods.
Looks like the hooks are in the lead, I really like the David halloran crystal mistress that would be my choice....
Toss up between a hooks executioner and hooks executioner 2.
Reason - diaphram calls make all the sounds you need to kill a turkey and they are hands free so you can have your hands on your gun when he's getting ready to give up the ghost... :toothy9:
I'm sorry I can't just take 1 call to the woods. This is just my box call collection.

Definately a true wingbone; nothing creates a gobble faster....................rem
it would have to be the Cody woodsman glass pot call for me, it has a very good rasp, and you can make every sound a turkey makes. perfect for low key clucks and purrs, and if you need to get more aggressive on windy days.its an all around good call
One of TRKYHTR's slate calls it just talks turkey!!!
Woodhaven Cherry Classic slate. It's the call I run the best and have the most confidence in.
Slate call my buddy makes :gobble:
My OLD Rohm brothers double sided slate. The nastiest, raspiest yelp with the softest purring I've ever heard. Been the death of quite a few.
My Magnolia Game Calls slate because I am more confident with it than any other.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Glen Marrer Zebrawood glass over slate and my hollow Locust striker.
my parker wheddon wingbone because it is all turkey.
A glass pot made by AJ Turkey Calls. :icon_thumright:
Primos "True Double" stacked frame (Piggyback) mouth call. I have confidence in this call and killed my two best gobblers with it, one in 2004 and the other in 2011. Also like all mouth calls it does not require movement to run it, that's a big advantage.
Would be a toss up between a trumpet, wingbone or one of my many tubes.
My one call would be my Mike Yingling slate call. It's just a great call, makes some sweet sounds and is always consistant!
Hooks JR Executioner 2
Hen turkey wingbone thats at least 30 years old,lot of history with this call.

Woodhaven Cherry Classic slate. It's the call I run the best and have the most confidence in.
Amen to that. Woodhaven Cherry Classic - it is my all around favorite call and is solely responsible for many turkey's untimely deaths.
(But I do like a Woodhaven Red Scorpion diaphram when they get close because it is hands free.)
My CC Smoker. ;D it's been the go to reed for me.
Trumpet.
A slate pot call with three different strikers.
Hooks Bronze glass and one of my yellowheart strikers 10 died last year from that combo so why give up a good thing!
Defintely a mouthcall. I make my own and it'd probably be a 3 reeded batwing cut with .003 latex over 2 prophylactic reeds. The diversity of this combination is endless.
Glass pot call. You just can't argue with the success that these calls have every spring.
It would have to be the Red Wasp by Woodhaven, I have the most confidence in this call.
Woodhaven Copperhead mouth diaphragm has been good to me for a while....so would take it. It's not the one that I like best...I like the Woodhaven NWTF Ghost Cutter diaphragm best..very easy to use and will make all the sounds, quiet and loud. Just seems like I got the Copperhead in my mouth everytime I'm around a hot gobbler.
If I didn't have my Billy White "Hustlin Hen" box call I'd feel like I was going in naked. :goofball:

Hooks JR Executioner 2
Got a friend blowing that call in a jr frame. Man, he can do some awesome hen talking with that little call.

with out a doubt what he said :z-winnersmiley:
Hooks Executioner
I'd have to say I'd take my David Halloran Crystal Mistress with a couple of different strikers.

Same here!! :you_rock:
right now it would be my primos power crystal, but i have a new arsenal going to the woods with me to try out this year.
Anything from 1UP game calls
Wingbone for sure. The one and only call for Ole Grand daddy Tom... Must sound real sexy

Bingo...
Some form of raspy double or triple diaphragm call. Primos Triple w/bat cut, something from Hooks, etc.
mudhen
My scratch box calls, either dougals fir with white oak striker,or my new walnut with mahogany stiker. I know they're deadly since thats mostly what I use. Or my long box calls that toms just love to gobble to.
Id like to say one of my trumpets, but I would take a mouth call. Its waterproof, light weight, hands free and I can replicate many differents sounds with it. I hunt lots of pressured public land and dont have any issues even late season with a mouth call.
Lon Trice glass call. Coming in a close second would be a Billy White Hustlin Hen.
Here is one no one has maybe heard of, but should......
Southland Game Calls from AL makes a call named the Eastern Special.
It is a competition style caller and very diverse. Great sound, not too raspy......just right.
I have had the most responses to that mouth call more than anything I have in my arsenal.
Mouth yelper
Man that's a tough question. I think I would lean to my Gooserbat Hillbilly diaphragm.
It would have to be my Mother Lode laminated slate...its the call I have been working with the most.
Only one call ??? Trumpet.
Richard
Mother Lode X-Terminator mouth call.
TRKYHTR
woodhaven cluck n purr pot
mine would have to be a hooks devastator.
Hooks SG3
While I would hate to be without my Lynch Fool Proof box call, I would choose the Legacy Hacksaw mouth call.
Lights Out yellowheart aluminum call.

My all time favorite box call, I took a Single Season Royal Slam last year with one call Pauls' Call's. I envy your collection. Thank you again for sharing.

Ditto for me-it would be my Mother Lode Slate.
Billy white hustlin hen
Right now my trumpet made by Sanatorium
my trusty slate ... no my Gibson trumpet
lynch "world champion" box call
Cody Spec 1 slate with an old Lightning Strike striker from Ted Peters.
The call is awesome but the real secret behind this combo is that striker. I got this one from an old friend and have never been able to find another one. I've been using it for around ten years and I'm terrified that someday I'll run out to step on ones head and forget it. :'(

box call for me . nice collection .
Labrador puppy.

Legacy Prize Possession Mouth Call!
Doug
My Cody Envy glass using a Woodhaven birch striker. It never fails me. That said I never go out with just one call. Bad omen. reflexl
Cody woodsman
Albert Paul all walnut box. Hen on both sides. Most realistic sound in my arsenal, capable of very quiet to very loud.
Slate
My old HS Black Magic pot...
My hook's slate
Woodhaven red wasp
Tank was absolutely right with his comment about the most popular calls, but I think the issue there is that is does not matter what call you bring to the woods to use. Its knowing how to properly use it, when to use it, and when to shut up. That being said...I prefer using the White Lightning mouth call by Hillbilly Custom Game Calls because I can produce every vocalization of the wild turkey on that one call while remaining hands free!! I love that call!!
Jonathan
Woodhaven red wing. Easy choice for me, it's my go to call on every hunt.
One of my double siders in Anodized alum. over slate. Their like having 2 calls in one.
