Title: LA WMA Lottery success
Post by: bigjb on February 23, 2012, 06:50:17 PM
Got my notice in today that I had been picked for one of the Sicily Island WMA lottery hunts. Got picked two years ago but had terrible weather the whole time. Excited for a new chance. Also my hunting buddy got selected for another weekend as well.

What has been yalls sucess rate on the Louisiana Lotto WMA's hunts? In the 10 years we have only killed 1 jake and had 2 misses on the same longbeard (wild longbeard), the same day, about 400 yards from the check station & truck. The jake was a tame turkey that had wondered off from the Angola State Penatentary. The guy that killed it was a rookie and didn't realize what was happening.............. He called up 11 turkeys, 10 of them was jakes and he couldn't figure out why they wouldn't run off after he killed the 1. The one he killed weighed 28 pounds and had feet as big as a Emu!

LOL ! That's pretty funny !! I killed 1 nice longbeard and had 1 miss on lottery hunts. Got drawn the last 3 years, but we did go about 3 years in a row of not getting drawn.

The funny part was prolly the expression on the biologist's face when he was reading the report on the check out tag we put in the drop box! I even called them about 2 weeks later I told the guy it was true...........

I got mine in the mail today for Tunica Hills south tract in April. The letter said that all hunters on the tract must have a GPS because they are studying hunter movement and it's effect on turkeys.seems like an interesting study. Anyone with advice on the hunting there? I've never been there.
