Title: 2 3/4 Win Ext Range
Post by: spurcollector on February 22, 2012, 05:36:12 PM
I went to the local gun shop today. They had 2 3/4Win Ext Range 1 1/2 oz #6 for $22 a box of 10. These were the original ext range without Elite on the box. I already shoot Ext range #5 in a 3" and get about 150 in 10 at 40. How do you think these will pattern compared to the 3" #5's. Is this a good Buy?

What store has these shells?     I have an older 870 that is only chambered for 2.75" shells.    Those XRHD shells might be just the ticket for my backup shotty.

At the price of tungsten shot today, I's less than wholesale and may the the "last of the breed". Those shells were made in 2005 only and were branded "Elite" in 2006. There are major differences in the shot and wad in those shells and the later ones.

You should be able to get some excellent patterns with those shells and you may be able to equal your hits with your 3" #5 pellet shells.

They work best in chokes with .640 to .655 exit diameters, all other things being equal.

You made a good find and might want to stock up on them.

Thanks,
Clark

If I got 150 in the 10 at 40 with the 3 inch #5 my search would be over, The winchester XRHD's will put a hurt on'em.

A friend of mine shoots the 2 3/4" xrhd #6's in browning A-5. Using a stock browning .660 choke, he gets 140's at 40yds in the 10.

Thank the replys. I have to go back in Friday to pick up some 20ga shells that were ordered. I will pick up some of these also. There were 4 boxes of them. I will try to post how they shoot when I get time to get my gun out.

Bought 8 boxes this morning.  Offered the guy $150 ~ less than $19/box.  These are the non-Elites.  Usually shoot 3" but this will kill birds and with prices going up.
