As you know the short barrels like the 21" on the 870s can be a challenge but the #7 shot shells throw so many pellets they can help a lot. The best choke I can find for that combo is the SSX due to its design. I've shot mostly #6 shot through that barrel but from memory, the #7s I've shot have produced very dense patterns that would certainly do the job. I'd have to look back to get you a count however.

Thanks,
Clark

I shoot a Jelly head .660" on my 21" barrel on my 870.  I shoot Hevi-13's with 3 X 2 X 7's.  I get 248 at 40 yards in a 10" circle.  I love this shotgun.  :happy0064:

I have the same exact gun.  I tested the JH .665, Pg.670, and H13 .664.  Out of those, the JH gave me slightly better results.  I was around the 200 mark in the 10".  Not mind blowing patterns, but they were very even and I had room for error.  I Killed a couple of KS birds that were around 45 yards with no problem.

If I had to do it again, I'd like to try the .660

have the same gun and my chokes are sumtoy(.662) good jellyhead (.665) better and sumtoy (0.658) best

Sumtoy shoots a good even 10 and 20 nice and consistant, I actually get better numbers out of the jellyhead but its not as even a pattern.
