Looking at the posts on the original thread, lots of us hunt out of state alone..... :turkey2:
So what , if anything, do you do to keep safe in case of a problem in the field.
Just let the home folks know your general area, call home on a regular basis, try to hookup with a local or do you just hunt and not worry about it?
Also, when hunting out of state how much of your time is spent on public land vs private land?

Always let someone know where I'll be..where I'm staying, who I'm hunting with, and when I plan to be home. Check in daily with home to let them know I'm ok. Always carry my cell phone and wallet. My itenerary for each hunt is printed, with all the phone numbers for each trip, such as hotel or motel, outfitter, etc., so anyone at home can contact me.

I kick the turkey season off with a 3-day hunt in Alabama (even though we have all learned there aren't any turkeys in Alabama). before I leave I print off a map and I have it marked where I will be camping, and several areas where I intend to hunt (it helps that I have hunted that area for many years and know the areas I plan to hunt). beyond that, I call home at least once a day and always keep my cell phone with me, first-aid kit, snake bite kite, gps and wallet while hunting.
I check in and out with the landowner before and after each hunt,always have.Try tO park in the same place as well.This is all on private ground.Something as litte as a twisted ankle can be a big deal,especially out west where temps drop at night.

I just go. I'm never certain where exactly I'll end up so giving an itinerary will only confuse folks more if they start looking. It'll be known where I intend to start, at least what part of the state and a nearby town, and when I make a big move (a different state) I'll call in. Plus, I usually talk with a few folks a day and give updates on what's going on.
I just call the wife every once in a while and check in to let her know everything is good. I know she wouldnt have a clue how to find me if something went wrong so I call my dad and let him know the general area Im in and how the hunts going. If I make any major change in game plans I'll call dad and let him know the area I'm heading to.

I broke down and under pressure from my kids got a cell phone. Problem is in Southern Iowa, and Kansas where I hunt, the dang phone doesn't get a signal most of the time. Fricking irritating!
Same here where we hunt in the Black HILLS SOUTH DAKATO's there isn't any reception either. But if they were looking for you with a rescuer helicopter it maybe would have the capable to pick up your telephone in a valley or something, so i all ways carry mine even if i don't think it will work.
