Anyone else have this shotgun? I've had mine for 2 years now and I run a Comp-N-Choke XXX Full .670 and I'm switching to a Kicks GT .670 and will try 3" with 2oz of 6's thru it. No matter what I do it seems like at 30 and over Im not getting good results with my old choke.
I have an 835 with 20" barrel. I use a SumToy choke and HS 3.5 2.25 #7 and get 230 - 250 hits inside 10" at measured 40 yards. I tried other chokes and the SumToy patterned the best. I haven't tried 3" shells in the SumToy, but in other chokes they didn't do as well as the 3.5".
i have an old 835 with 24 inch barrel,it doest like 6s .it will pattern better with 5s than 6s.,thats with carlson, hasting, ultifull, chokes,.maybe its the shells .
I have the same gun. I have a Hevishot choke in mine .676 constriction. Shooting Hevi-13 3 1/2 inch 7's it will put 270's inside 10 inches at 40 yards.
My Dad has one with a 20" barrel, thumbhole stock. He has a ICBDS choke in .675.
Looking forward to patterning this spring with some handloads.
I bought mine the first year they came out. I have tried, Kicks, factory, Rhino, and others, the Stardot choke backed up with the Hevi 3-1/2 #7's have consistently produced 250+ numbers. I stopped counting and worrying about it year before last. Before I got on this forum and got bit with the 300+ bug, I NEVER had a problem killing every bird I shot at with the Kicks and Win Supreme 3-1/2 #6's. IMO, you can't go wrong with that combo. Choke is fairly inexpensive and the shells can be bought at any sporting good shop. I have never tried the Mag Blend, but a buddy of mine has the Kicks choke in his 535 Tactical and shoots awesome patterns with them.
I hunt in La and Ms primarily and deep woods, swamp birds....I have found no need to have a field gun anymore. I have had to shoot a running injured bird at long distance, but that was due to my impatience on first shot. I have had several scopes, took them off...too hard to woods hunt with them...had the $80 box of Nitro shells and Rhino combo, they didnt perform any better than the combo I have now.
Dont get caught up in the 300 bug, I think its the biggest waste of time and $$...I would invest in several diffefrent boxes with a friend, or several friends, get ahold of two or three chokes, and stick with the best one. But that Tactical 835 is definately a one man turkey wreckin machine...

The main reason that I published the article
"Cleaning a Shotgun Barrel" which describes the "deep cleaning" process, was for shooters of short-barreled 835s. Fully 39% of my direct inquiries were about patterning challenges with these guns. That has slowed somewhat over the years but it's still a good percentage.
Before you invest in any new products, I'd recommend that you try that procedure. It helps a lot, maybe enough to take care of your patterning woes, maybe not but it's a first step.
If that does not do what you need, I'd recommend the SSX for your gun. That has solved a lot of short barreled 835 shooters problems over the last 7 years.
Thanks,
Clark
