Title: Natural Mortality?
Post by: Singlebarrel on February 21, 2011, 02:08:59 PM
We found a mature Tom dead on one of our properties today that holds a very large flock of turkeys.  He was laying next to a pond, in the same pasture where the landowner is feeding shell corn to some calves.  The birds have been using this pasture almost non-stop since they started feeding.  There was no sign of trauma to the bird at all.  Should I be concerned about disease or is this most likely just "one of those things" that happen in Nature quite frequently & we normally just don't know about?

Singlebarrel,

He could have died of an aortic rupture.  Gobblers are famous for that.
