Which shotgun would you guys recommend getting when weather is nasty raining wet cold just plain awful so my good guns stay nice :fud: :OGani:
One of the top two .
T/C Encore 12 or 20.
I use my regular gun and clean it when I get home.
If you're afraid of rain/dirt getting on your turkey gun you need to get a different gun. Turkey hunting is a down and dirty sport IMO, if you worry about your gun, your gonna prevent yourself from working close to that difficult hung up gobbler.

I agree
have always cleaned mine after every weekend of hunting, rain or shine
Get a Beretta 391 Xtrema 2 or that A400 Extreme, Since they are designed for waterfowl hunting, they have that special coating on them for moisture resistance, you might find yourself using them all the time too.
Never really thought about it. My shotguns are all "working guns." I just pull them apart and clean them good when I get home.

I'd have to agree with what most folks have already said, guns are made to use in good and bad weather. There's very little that can't be cleaned and taken care of after the hunt. Just dry it off and out and lightly lubricate whatever needs it. Then use some vapor tech products to prevent any rust where you can't see and you're all set.
Thanks,
Clark
I tend to sleep in or sit in the truck and wait for poor weather to break.
The only way my guns get wet is if I get caught in a random downpour.
i was thinking about getting a beat up old 870 or a mossberg just for rainy days :turkey2: :turkey2: :turkey2: :funnyturkey: :funnyturkey:
I am turning my back up into a rain gun. Winchester 1300 with fiber optics.

hookedspur......u got too many...send me one! i'll even settle for just a bbl
What gun do you use for a turkey gun now?
I don't hunt in the rain anymore. If I get caught in the rain will dry my gun real good place it barrel down and wipe it down with oil after the hunt is over.
My Benelli is fairly rust resistant my Rem. 870 will rust within a few hours of getting really soaked.

I dont have any guns that I WOULDNT hunt in the rain/mud with.
If there is a threat of rain, I'll take one of my synthetic stocked, dipped guns and try to keep it as dry as possible but they have gotten wet. I just clean and re-oil them when I get home.
Ever heard the phrase...March winds bring April showers....
Spring here in the South East can be very unpredictable and if you're not prepared to hunt in inclement weather, you could seriously limit your hunting time, especially if the weekends are the only days you have off.
Got a safe full of guns and ain't nary a one a "safe queen". To each his own but that is what I bought them for, to hunt and shoot stuff with.
I refuse to own toys I can't play with....
My primary turkey gun is a 870 super mag. I put a TruGlo fiber optic sight on it and with the parkerized finish and synthetic stock, I'm not the slightest bit concerned with it getting wet, dirty or scratched in the brush.
This year I'll be after 'em hard with my bow though. Been shooting a lot of 3D, and practicing with my mouth calls (they still sound horrible)
Clark what's the Vapor Tech products you mentioned? Thank you, Chief.

Good idea! :icon_thumright:
Send any gun you have to Lee at blackicecoatings.com and get it teflon coated never worry about weather again. Tell him Scott sent you he is the best at teflon coating and dipping IMO.
Unless you are hunting in salt water, run what ya brung.
My turkey gun gets the worst treatment of any gun I own. I have so few days to hunt that I go even if it is storming. I have found that if I oil it good before I go and let it dry off then spray it down again when I get home it will not rust. If I wasn't going to use it for all weather, I would have gotten a Peerless 1100 or a shiny Beretta A400 and just used it during nice weather. I bought a matte finished, synthetic stocked, camo'd gun to HUNT!
I'm still curious to what turkey gun is so special that a guy would be concerned about getting it dirty and wet. Come on man tell us what gun ya got. Inquiring minds want to know.
Its a model 12 winchester that my granddad left me when he died I was born 2 months after his death that is why it means so much :mycross: :bible:
You could put away the model 12 and buy you a 870 maybe from a pawn shop. You just about can not beat them. Good Luck with whatever you decide.
My rain gun is my SBE II. Easy to clean, easy to dry out, etc.

X2. Most of my heirlooms sit in the house. 870 is the best all around pump there is.
I use the same guns no matter the weather, sounds like a good excuse to get another gun though.
I hunted my 870 regardless. Sat out in a torrential downpour last year and never saw a bird. But, hey, can't kill them if you're in the truck or on the couch.
By the time I made it home, it was already rusting. Cleaned it off, oiled it good, and went back the next day. I did have it dipped after season so no more external rusting to worry about.
This year it will be my SBE2
Ive been looking at all the posts Ibelieve Im going to check on a SBE2 :funnyturkey: :OGturkeyhead:
I understand your situation and in that case I would go to a local pawn shop and get a cheap pump. Get some good shells and a decent choke and your ready to go for no more then $300.
I would put up an heirloom. Get an 870. I have used one for my go to gun sine I was 13. I have had 2, and I have ran close to 100 cases thru each with trap, turkey, deer slugs, and duck hunting. Both are champs and have never let me down, even in freezing rain duck hunts, or crawl thru the mud goose hunts, or sunny day dove hunts.
