Great find.
some of the best shells that's ever been made for turkey hunting
Good for you, Brian!
Those are some AWSOME shells!
One of the best. I really like the Pre-FC Federals. My 10 ga. BPS loves the "Old" Fed. Premium 3.5" 2 1/4 oz of #6's. I have enough to last awhile. Looks like you do too, now. Great find!
Love those shells. I still have a few in 12 and 20. I really wish they still made those.
Nice score!!
Great find! I still have some in 3" 4's and 6's and some 2 3/4" 6's. They killed alot of turkeys!
Those were my go to loads for years right there! I still have a BUNCH of them. Good thing too because they are virtually impossible to find anywhere around here. I have checked as far away as a three hour drive with no joy.
:turkey2: Oh if they would only go back to them !!!!!!!
I'm jealous. Them are the good 'uns!!!!
My old 870 with a .640-650 Hastings loved those shells... I cut my teeth killing some south Arkansas gobblers with that round. I miss the good ol days.
I just found 3 boxes 3.5-2-6 and 1 box 3.5-2.25-6 that I picked up everytime I find some I get them. All I had was 2 left and I had just found the next best lead that I had shot with my browning silver a win sup. 3.5-2-6 and stumbled up on these I hope I can find a few more. I am gonna go back up to the store and get the last box 3.5-2.25-4's old federals.
A small store around here HAD the 3.5-2-6 HV old Federals for $7.99 per box. I say had because I bought them all.

LOL! I did the same thing with old Fed 3-2-7.5's a while back. I shoot hevi-13 now mostly, but I just can't help but hoard those sweet old gold and blue box Federals.
I only have 4 of those shells left. :'(
Those were the load back in the day; I found 2 of those shells the other day and my son shot one through his 870/kicks set up, I wish I could find a stash of them!

I wonder if Speer/Federal/ATK is aware of how popular the pre-FC shells are. Maybe there's a market they can tap into if they're interested. They sure don't have to do any R&D to make the shells the old way.
Those are some nice finds. I think i might go to some old stores around here. See if i can get lucky.
If you can get your hands on them, the shells they made before those in the 1 7/8oz. version of buffered, non-copper plated 3" #6's were also great back in the day.
Sure seems like the shells were more consistent back then as well.
GREAT FIND! I bought 6 boxes of 3 1/2 inch #6's about 5 years ago for $12 a box.....I'm now on my last box.
Are the older Federal Grand Slam turkey pre-fc shells any good? Or is that what those are?
I have the old grand slam box with 4 shells left. There is a picture of the skeleton of the shell. It does don't look like the FC wad.

BPS/Comp-n-Choke .670. I don't remember the counts.
I was told they changed over from those old blue and gold boxes to a different box before they quit making them and went to the flight control garbage.
Yes. They were packaged in the new style boxes for a while before adding the Flight Control Wad logo. I have some of those, too.

Well, if its from Fred at Rogers, you better hurry. I just got my 3 new boxes for a total of 7 of the 3.5/2/6s. I also just shot it todat in my 835 thumbhole and the new TG .670 Bone Collector. My impression? NICE!! After a poi adjustment to the right about 6" on the red dot, no joke, at 35 yards, it put virtually every single pellet on the 24" square pattern paper with just a few outside the edges!! The center 10" was nice and dense and even...in fact the whole pattern was just about perfect! I LOVE THOSE OLD FEDEREAL LEAD LOADS BOY!!

I don't think i've found a lead shell that out performs the Winchester XX 3.5 2 1/4oz 6's yet. You have any pix up of that recent shoot with these shells and that Bone Collector choke? I've been curious to see how well those chokes shoot.
Ask and ye shall receive. The shot was actually 36 yards. Same range as usual at the folks' house. I have shot hundreds of rounds of winchester loads...like em a lot, but I have always gotten better results with the older Fed pre FC 3.5/2/6 pb loads in my gun/choke combos. Many guys who have only been hunting 10 years or less don't really get to see what a real federal lead load is since the advent of the FC wad. Shame too cuz they don't know what they're missing... while this pattern is quite good, I have gotten better from this gun, just not with this choke as it was, up until today un tested.
I stumbled across a great find today, friend of my uncle was cleaning out his storeroom/junk room and came across 10 boxes of old Federal pre FC 3"20ga 1-1/4oz #6's
he gave them to my uncle who in turn gave them to me
christmas came early
So...How much ya want for em? :toothy9:
I found two boxes on a local stores shelf of the 3.5 2 1/4oz 5's but he wanted 20 bucks a box. They can sit and collect dust for another 15 years lol.
Only thing I've been able to find is the 3/2/4s at Dunn's. Hard to find those 5s anymore.

GH,
That's funny because it was just a couple years back that I bought a bunch of these shells through you and Reloader when I was searching for them too. Got 9 boxes put up I got through both you guys finding them and buying them for me, seems like it was $9-10 a box. :)
If any of you fellas run across these old Fed Premium shells (old stuff-Non FC wad) in 3" 2oz #5s you let me know. Was the shebang on toms for me for a number of years. Down to 5 tarnished shells now in those #5s.
There is a local store that has a few boxes but you don't wanna see the price tag on them.
