Here's what I do:
1. Use a pipe cleaner
2. Put one end of pipe cleaner between the box and the lid.
3. Close the lid over the pipe cleaner
4. Wrap the loose section of the pipe cleaner under the box and over the lid
5. Twist the pipe cleaner to secure the lid
This method both silences the call and prevents the lid from sliding around. Give it a try!

I took an old green cotton athletic sock and cut it off at the 'ankle.' I slid the upper tube of the sock onto the box part and put one of my wife's ponytail rubber bands around the box and lid to keep them from moving.

The pipe cleaner is a good idea.
I read remarks here recently where someone talked about using a sponge between the body and lid and a rubber band around it.
I've used rubber bands.
I like Tom Teasers' simple and effective approach with the lanyard on its new box call. I've got some inexpensive calls that I may drill to test for retrofitting a simple rope lanyard like this.
I commandeer one of my wifes pony tail holders, she even has some without the brass ferrule to join the ends I think they are marketed as pain free, but she is protective of these. I wrap it first around the paddle near the handle and then double it over and under the body of the box. It keeps the paddle off the rails, and holds it in place. Simply slide the band forward to use the call and then slide it back in to place to silence it. This does work better on some boxes than others, depends on the size of the call and the hair accessory. But its really cheap and effective. :anim_25:

X100000 , super cheap and very effective.
The sponge thing sounds dangerous, using something that is designed to hold water/moisture to silence an item that is very delicate when it comes to moisture.

I just use a rubber band. I slide the band between the lid and rails of the call and around the box, then twist it and come up over the lid. It holds the lid tight and away from the rails so it won't squeak on you. It is also water resistance so it won't soak up any moisture and it won't scratch up your call like a pipe cleaner will.
I've been using a piece of scotbrite pad between the paddle and box held in place by a rubber band, but I might try some of the good ideas given here so far.

I bought a roll of 2" wide black elastic band material in the fabric department. My mother is a seamstress so I had her cut them to length and sew them into a loop. I just slide them over the body and lid and it holds it really firmly. Once in a blue moon I may have something hit my vest pretty hard and get a little squeak out of the call but its rare. I'll try to get a picture of one posted later.
