Title: Does water on an open dot sight affect it?
Post by: gersus on February 16, 2012, 11:19:27 AM
I tried the search but couldn't find anything. I've never used an optic on a shotgun so I'm wondering how dew or water would affect it? The last thing I want is to put on an optic and have to be careful with my gun.

I don't know about the rest of the country but around here often the grass is soaking wet from heavy dew and I sometimes have to crawl or lie in it to get a shot.

Thanks for the help!

I think most of them are waterproof but that's a controversial topic on it's own.  Claiming to be waterproof has many different meanings.   Waterproof does not necessarily mean submersible.

I look at "waterproof" as being not ruined by being subjected to water seeping inside. What I'm wanting to know is if a drop of water is on the lense, does it make it difficult or impossible to make the shot?

Thanks for replying!

That should not be an issue.
