Over the years I've had many hunters who've used that set-up successfully to kill a bunch of turkeys. I haven't seen much of that gun lately however. It can be pretty punishing.
Thanks,
Clark
way to punishing
I have one that shoots Nitro 7s real well with a 665 IC. But it does kick on the bench ,I dont notice it on a bird .Very light carries well.
Wondering if its possible to have a Gun Smith extend the chamber to 3.5" ?
I got one ! I have a kicks 665 and it like the heavyweight 6's . I tried the the mag blends and not so good results . The blends kicked so bad I thought my hair was going to fall out . I'm thinking about getting one from sumtoy to try heavy-13 , 7's .
hookedspurs , you must not like yourself if your considering shooting a 3.5 out of your encore ! Please video that and post it if you decide to .
I shoot them from a lead sled . :TooFunny: :icon_thumright:

Yup we tested one a few years back. I shot it 2 times then got me a test dummy
I have one and shoot and Indian Creek and Nitros. The mag blends do have quiet bit if recoil but it does not seem to bother me with the nitros or any other loads. Awesome patterns and very light. I even had a Nikon turkey scope on mine and never got bit.

Got rid of my barrel a few years ago.. too punishing.
Recoil doesn't bother me as bad as carrying a lot of weight. Some mornings I will walk several miles chasing thunder chickens. I shoot a .416 Rigby with +p ammo for the fun of it so if the patterns are good I would live with it. I think I will give my 209x12 a go first. It is very light and carries good. reflexl
me having fun with the .416

My buddy had the turkey barrel set up on his Encore about 6 years ago. The 1st time he shot it, he wasn't steadied and it rolled him. I hunkered down and tried it next. My shoulder still hurts.
We had a TC 83/87 with the rifled slug barrel, the 12 Ga smooth BBl and a 10ga bbl.
Deadly for deer and geese. Never used it for turkeys.
The slug bbl hit as hard as most anything we have shot.
Good luck and enjoy
