Hello everyone this is my first post! I recently purchased a Browning Maxus in a 28" barrel and 3 1/2 inch chamber. I was hoping you guys could help me find a good choke tube and shell combination. I am thinking about shooting the Heavy 13 6 shot or the Winchester Extended Range. Is there a reason some people only shoot the 3" inch 2 oz 6 shot heavy 13 instead of the 3 1/2 inch? Thanks for the responses!!! :turkey2:
Thanks for the reply, any idea why the Indian Creek choke tubes recommend shooting a .665? What are the positives and negatives of the different choke constrictions?
I have a maxus w/ 28'' barrel also chambered in 3.5. I am using the heavy 13 choke (664) and put 225 in 10'' circle @ 40 yards. Tomorrow i am going to try heavy 13 #7s.
Has anyone tried the Jelly Head .670 with the 3 1/2 inch 2 1/4 ounch 6 shot Heavy 13?? This seems to be a popular setup.
I shoot a browning gold 670 rhino choke 31/2 , 7 shot nitro's never counted holes but pattern looks awesome.
How did the results go with the Heavy 13 7's!?
The weather was not good so i didnt go. I will be going friday for sure. Temps in the mid 60's and from what i have been reading here that is an ideal temp. I will let you know how it goes.
Maxus 28'' 3.5 hevi 7's (2.25oz) temp 65 degrees
40 yards-257
This was in a 10'' circle
Mine shoots a with a pure gold with hevi 13 7s AWESOME
I had a pure gold in my 835 today and only put 216 in the circle
Hopefuly the picture will work
My SX3 with a 26" barrel put 223 hits average at 40 yards shooting MagBlends with a .665 I.C.
I have the Maxus 3.5 chamber 26'' barrel. Just bought it last week. I went out and bought the heavy thirteen choke because that's the last choke I used in my 11-87, (what a dumb move that was) I shot Heavy 13 number five. Some Remington 6's and some heavy shot mag blend. Every thing was like 6-8 inches left. It was terrible time of taking a beating and getting pissed off. Have since been reading everything there is to read about winning combos for shells and choke. All i can tell you is don't do what I have explained above because it didn't work out of my gun at all.
Luke guess I have been lucky, my Maxxus poa/poi is dead on. And I shoot left handed.
Some invector+ barrels shoot a lot better with a .670 to .675 constriction, my 26" SX3 didn't do as good with.675 and really likes the IC.665, I'm getting 280 to 310 with Hevi 13 2.25 oz. #7,lot # 300325 and 300326. I've got a .675 kicks and Supermax so I'm not comparing apples to apples either. The .675 IC may out shoot my IC .665 but I'm happy with it.
I have a Maxus 26" barrel and I have a Rob Roberts .660 choke, my #'s werent great but ok, 167 in 10 and like 335 in 20" with mag blends. I called Rob and talked to him about it and he is sending me more chokes to try, he did mention that some of those guns really like the .675-.680 but NOT all of them. I am going to do some shooting when they get here to see. He also made mention that some of the magnum blends shells may have more 5's in some lots where another lot could have more 7's, hence the better #'s. I would be careful in getting so caught up in #'s, a lot of people would say that mine are really low and bad, but my pattern is great and we've all killed turkeys before with old lead shells and standard chokes. I would say if you could get around 150 in a 10" at 40 you have plenty.
New here to the board. I just picked up a 26" Maxus and called Carlsons and Indian Creek to get some info on the chokes. BOTH said they love the Maxus and both suggested .665. Carlsons went further to say use an unported tube and they dont suggest using 3 1/2 for any patterns. They have the best shots with Heavy 13 in a 3" shell. ?? Going to the pattern board tomorrow to see what happens...
In mine I shoot the Pure Gold 670 and 3.5 2.25 Hevi 13 7s with excellent results.
I shoot a Maxus with a Wright's strut stopper and Hevi 13/ 3 in 2 oz 6s....it is the best pattern I have ever seen.
Winchester SX3 28" bbl IC .665 Hevi 7's 2.25 oz. :happy0064: :happy0064: :happy0064:
The JH670 is a good all around choke.
Some guys get better patterns with the 3" loads. Its a gun specific deal.
