Title: traveling call
Post by: woodwzrd on February 09, 2012, 07:32:44 PM
Hey guys,

What do you guys think about doing a traveling call. As well as a turkey hunting addict I am a call maker and I make pots and tubes and would be willing to do either or maybe even both. Let me know what you think.

A pot sounds like a good idea. I'd be happy to hunt with it and then pass it on to the next team member.  Need to start with the FL hunters since that season opens earliest and then let it work its way north.

Might be a good idea to do two calls or something since there's 12 of us and only a short time to hunt.

Good idea. If everyone could post up if they would like to use a tube or pot I'll see if there is enough interest in the tube. If there isn't enough interest in the tube I will get two pots done up. Also post the dates you are hunting and where and I will get a shipping route put together for the two calls.

I was thinking it would be fun to do a drawing or something at the end of the season and send one of the calls to each of the two drawing winners.

My season will start March 17 and end May 15 but I'll be on the road for several weeks in the middle of that.

Sounds like a great idea.  Have done the same with a hand carved duck decoy on another forum, always a good time.  Also a good idea to throw in a journal and a flash drive for pics.  Would be good to read the journal at end of season and see everyone's experiences and pics.  Mid April through Early May would be best for me, preferably a pot call.

I'm just glad ya'll didn't want to do a travelling mouth call....I'd prefer a pot call

Also, Mississippi Starts March 15th, I'll be in Oklahoma April 20-22, if that matters date wise....

Great idea. I prefer a pot call also.
My season is March 10th through April17th, if I sneak up to Ga maybe into May.
Whoever has the call can pay for shipping to the next guy up, this will even out once everyone has had the call.
Depending on the call, what do you guys think about all of the members using the call signing it or Doing something to mark the call each time a bird is called in with it?

That's a good idea about marking it before sending it to the next member.

i think the pot call would be a great idea .i'd be glad to go with the traveling call. far as the tube call,if it's what i'm thinking about (it's a air call huffed by the hunter) right? i've made a couple messing arround with  a piece of latex glove ,a rubberband and an old bottle from the pharmacy.. made some good sounds but it sure got slobbery..lol

I was thinking with a tube call that I would send enough reeds with it so everyone could use a new unused reed but I have two pot calls in the works so no worries there. I actually am putting the striking surface on the first on tonight. When I get the second one done I will get pics posted.

Just a quick update on the traveling calls. I have the first one done and waiting to get paired with a striker and the second should get done this weekend. I sent out a coupe of PMs requesting some more info for shipping and dates and am just waiting to hear back from a couple of guys and I will get the shipping list in order. Both calls should go out the first week in March so you can get them in your hands before season. I am hoping to be able to space the dates out enough so that everyone gets the call for at least a week
