Does anyone have or plan on getting a hand held HD video camera for filming? I really want to get one but I just can't spend a lot of money on one. Anyone have one or got any ideas on which brand to go with. I love technology but I just haven't kept up with the video cameras and things like that.
I looked into for filming deer hunts with my son. Figured if I couldn't carry the rifle I'd film him. The cost to get into right was to high for me. Thought about going in half on some equipment with a friend that hunts with his son, but we never did. I know from other pursuits that if I buy low end equipment, I'll end up spending more money later on higher quality stuff. Now I try to buy only highly recommend gear. There is a wealth of information on line about filming hunts, but I would recommend going to a pro and talking it over with him. Even somebody that films weddings would be able to give you more helpful information then the guy trying to sell you the camera. I think if you would email just about anybody on TV they would take the time to put you in touch with there camera man. Most photographers I know will talk your ear off about their equipment.
My wife and I got a Flip HD camera for Christmas that I carried with me some during late muzzleloader season. It is small and compact and would be good for bow or turkey hunting. The zoom is not that great but I plan on getting a tripod, putting some camo tape on the front of it and seeing how well it films. I would think that within 40 yards it should get some good footage for me. The videos of family we have recorded so far look really good and the sound quality isn't bad.
Wish I could be of some assistance but I have never truly looked into video cameras. Have thought about filming hunts before but never went a step farther with it. Good Luck!
