Title: Hooks Aluminum or Bronze Glass
Post by: jperrotti on February 07, 2012, 12:13:08 PM
Buying my annual turkey call and I decided to give Hooks a try. I love glass pots, but I don't have any aluminum calls. I'm headed to NM to chase some mountain Merriam's and wanted to something that could reach out there and cut the wind. Anybody have any expierence with both? Is one louder than the other?
Thanks.

The Hooks bronze glass is a great call,  it sounds great.  If you don't have an aluminum call though I might try one.  I hear their aluminum is excellent as well.

I love both but the glass call wins in my book.

Give Scott a call and he'll run both for you right over the phone, then get the one that sounds the best to you.

Are there benifits to each one?  Does one do one thing better than the other?

The aluminum clucks and purrs and assembly yelps real well. I like the bronze glass for cutting/cacklin/excited yelping.

I just ordered the hooks aluminum so I'll report once I get it but I'm certain it will scream turkey. Macks prair wings has em for 29.99 and that's a freaking steal.

I played the slate, aluminum, and glass this weekend at the convention and honestly, the slate was my favorite, but of the two you mentioned, I liked the aluminum best.  As stated above, the low end stuff was amazing on this call, which is kinda weird for aluminum, as it is generally a ringer for the louder and harder stuff.  But it really sored on the top end too.  Very versatile from top to bottom.  I was very impressed.  So my favorites would be slate(sucker for a good slate), aluminum, and then the glass.  BUT, you can't go wrong with either.  I'll definately be giving Hooks a harder look in the future...didn't have enough money left after some other purchases to get any this year...haha.

I played 100's of pot calls over the last 3 days. Yesterday I was talking to Scott at the Hooks booth and picked up his bronzed glass cedar pot with an osage striker and started running it. I have boxes full of pot call and need another one like I need a hole in the head but I bought it anyway. It sounded great.
