Title: Hevishot or Heavyweight in Non-HTL turkey choke
Post by: wmd on February 03, 2012, 06:30:05 PM
I bought choke from somebody and did not ask the question of whether is HTL-rated or Lead Shot Only ...

Of course it is listed as "Lead Shot Only"  - anybody shoot  HTL in a Lead-only choke?  Anybody shoot hevi or heavyweight through a Hastings lead-only choke?

Thanks.

I shoot fed hvywght #7's through my hastings .562 with no problems. I get awesome patterns too.

I have Hastings chokes in 12 and 20 and have shot H-13 and Federal HW as well as their other flite control lead shells and had no problems.

They do rather well with lead loads by the way.

Have shot 4mm the last two yrs. hunting and testing. # of shells shot 30--40 ???  Out of a 590 extended choke tube, rated for steel. Mostly with a    1 1/4 oz load.  THE CHOKE SHOWS SIGNS OF SWELLING !!!!  I can get it out by hand still, but has marks on the sides where it is rubbing.  Have also been shooting a mixture of the smaller shot also tss #8, 4, testing, and rem. hd #6 1 1/8 at a few ducks.

Thanks again guys.  This is primarily my sons's gun and we will be shooting 7's in Hevi and/or Heavyweights.  We got our youth waterfowl hunt this weekend and then after that it is full-on prepping for the turkey opener.
