My son uses the SSX in his mossberg 835 and it performs super with almost any shells but particularly likes the Federal HW 7 shells.  You might want to test some of those too.
If you go with hevis then I would vote for the 6.  If it patterns well for you it will have the killing power for out to 50yds.  Hevi 7 would probably be good for 40.  Fed HW 7 should do 50.

I shot Hevi Shot 3 1/2" # 6 out of my Mossberg 535, and I was getting around 200 pellets at 40yds.
Because Hevi Shot is heavier than the lead, you can go with #7s, get more pellets in the 10" ring at 40yds and it still has knock down power at 50 yds.

Out of four different chokes that I already have for my gun, none of them will shoot the extended range at all. lol My gun just doesnt like them.

Yeah I had an indian creek tube and it did NOT like them either. The hevi shot tube seems to like them pretty good though! But it like the mag blend even more!! haha

Normally reload all my rounds, have done some TSS #7 and lead #5.  Last year I got a deal on some Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7, decided to give them a try.  Through my Beretta 390 and Trulock .660 ported was getting 240 hits in 10" at 40 yds, pretty impressive stuff.  All birds have dropped instantly, only thing I didn't like about them was finding pellets in meat, something you don't have to worry about with the TSS #7
