Title: Intro
Post by: woodwzrd on January 31, 2012, 08:52:51 PM
I posted up where I will be hunting and when already so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Scott Strangfeld. I am from Colfax WI. I have been a turkey hunting addict for about 15 years now. Shot my first bird 20 minutes after I walked off the road and have been hooked ever since. I have tried to get my oldest two daughters to hunt with me but they aren't very fond of the early mornings.

I started making game calls about a year and a half ago in the off season and that is just as addicting as hunting them. since I started making pot calls I have branched out into tube calls, crow, owl, open and closed reed distress, and I now make a closed reed howler. I am looking forward the this season and being on the team and hope I will be able contribute to the tally.

Good idea. Trevor James , I'm from sunbright tn. Started hunting turkey when I was 14 but didn't kill my first bird till I was 17. I did it all by myself, actually stalked to 40 yards of it and that was it. The next year I was with a buddy who called it in. It wasnt till the next season that I actually called in my first bird that I sealed the deal on. I was with this team last year and was lucky enough to take two birds, and my biggest to date. Looking forward to this season with a few of last years team and the new guys as well.

Hey guys my name is Drew Im 20 yrs old and Im in college at Mississippi State University studying Forestry/Wildlife management. i killed my first turkey when I was 9 and the good Lord has blessed me enough that i have killed almost 30 birds! Recently I have gotten really big into videoing hunts and making videos. I got the privilege to go and spend a weekend with Jeff Simpson, the creator or Heartland Bowhunter, and he taught me everything that I know! Last year my dad and I had a contest to see who could kill more birds, I killed 9 and he killed 7... It really put a strain on me since I hate loosing... since I was so caught up in winning I only took friends twice through the entire season... This year will be all about the footage so after I get one bird on the ground ill just about be done! Good Luck this year guys!! Ohh and if you need some mouth calls I make them so hit me up with a PM!!

Drew

Jamey Rex here.  I'm 55 and have been killing turkeys since '75.  Started out in upstate SC before moving to GA in '82.  Was a service manager in a Dodge dealership for 18 yrs but now manage a small (350 ac) farm for wildlife, and manufacture duck boat blinds for a living....and have LOTS of time to go turkey hunting.

Not sure I am quite as addicted as Wade but I do enjoy turkey hunting :)

Our season normally runs 7 weeks and I am usually limited out (3) by week 2 and am calling for others the rest of the season....however there has been a year or two that the turkeys kicked my butt.

Looking forward to getting to know you guys and maybe even hunting with some of you if the opportunity presents itself.

I wouldn't know what to do with 7 weeks of turkey season. We have if I remember right 6 or 7 seasons butt hey are only 7 days long. They just changed it this year to 7 from 5 and until a few years ago we could only hunt till noon.

I'm sure that you would figure out what to do with them if you had them.  :funnyturkey:

My name is John Young. I am 46 yrs old, been married 20 yrs. I have 3 children Kaylee 16, Christian 15 and Rachel is 14. I have been hunting since I was 12, but only took up turkey hunting 4 years ago. I live in Florida.
Every year I learn something new about turkey hunting. I have made a few pot calls and strikers and even a couple of owl and crow calls.

This is the 1st year they have a youth season here in Fla, my son drew a good hunt. I would love for him to kill a bird. He goes hunting, but it is not his favorite thing to do. If he gets a bird it would be in his blood forever.

looking forward to a great season.

My name is John Harris. I am from Grundy county TN. I have been hunting ever since I was 5 but didnt take up turkey hunting till 2004. Since that first day in the spring woods I have never been the same. I find myself wishing deer season away just to get to turkey season.I limited out last year on a wma. I hold that as one of my highest achivements ever. :)

My name is Jerry Courtney, 35 years old from Eudora, KS. Started turkey hunting 15 years ago, growing up you would never see turkeys around here, glad they made a comeback.  Started hunting when I was tall enough to walk the grass field of Kansas chasing pheasant and quail, got my first bird dog when i was 8 and have been hooked ever since.  Hunt about anything, as long as it is a bird, the occasional deer and antelope also.  Spend the majority of my hunting seasons chasing ducks and geese, cause I can do it 5 minutes from home, and am also a diehard upland bird hunter, but not much beats the rush of a strutting Tom screaming towards ya.

I apologize for not doing this sooner.  My name is Josh from Indianapolis, IN.  One of my fathers coworkers took me hunting for turkey when I was a young teen.  I forgot my license that day, but was able to call in a couple of birds and it was a great experience.  I had hunted everything else until a couple of years ago and I decided to go give it a try again on state land myself.  I found this site and gained alot of helpful information and the Lord provided me with a good bird that spring ... I've been hooked ever since.
