Title: 835 patterns
Post by: Wycliff on January 31, 2012, 12:04:26 PM
I shot both of my 835s this weekend and the results were not what I expected. The 24" 835 with pittman/star dot choke with  3.5 #7 hevi shot only had about 198 in 10" circle ??? but it was a nice even pattern. My 20" 835 with accuchoke .695 and 3.5 #7 hevi shot had 235 in 10 at 40 :z-guntootsmiley: Why would my numbers be so low on the 24" barrel . Should I try another choke or 3" shells

I'm sure some of the other 835 users will chime in but there are a couple of things I need to ask: 1. Has the 24"barrel been deep cleaned and polished  2. What is the lot number of the #7's that you shot in the 24" inch barrel and 3. What was the Temperature?

I shoot the 24" barrel in my 835 along with the pure gold choke and I'm getting over 300 pellets in 10 at 40 with the 300325 lot of #7's.

The Stardot choke is supposed to be one the BEST chokes in the 835.  I haven't been able to get my hands on one to try in mine yet but their are plenty of guys on here that SWEAR by them.

675 should give you 280 to 300.  Now some of the guns go over 300.

My 835 does not match most of the patterns on here, but I get 170-180 with H13 3.5" 2.25oz #6's and 270-280 H13 3.5" 2.25oz #7's withe StarDot from my 24" barrel.

Definitely let us know the lot number and shoot a cleaned bbl.  I have shot the star fit and Sumtoy and get 300-330 depending on the weather and load variations.  I generally get an average of 310-315 in a 10 " and 540-550 in an overall 20".  I have shot both the 300325 and 300525 lots with good results.

The barrel was clean ,but  not deep cleaned or polished. The temp was around 65. I'll have to check on the lot # later tonight. thanks for all of the responses, keep em coming I just dont understand how the factory choke is getting better #'s. Sumtoy the star dot is .676

Were your 10" circles made over the densest part of the pattern or were you shooting at a predrawn circle? POI could have something to do with it.

The 10" was densest part of patter poi was left of poa on 24" gun and a little low on 20" gun . I was able to adjust them in with the factory sights

I tried a star dot in my 835 with HS 3.5 2.25 #7 and it didn't pattern as well as the sumtoy choke or the primos jellyhead.  I know guys have said the star dot works really well with lead...might give lead a try.

I would go with the SumToy first. William is very knowledgeable, and he will work with you till you are satisfied. I just ordered a .675 for my 835 from him.
