Hi Everyone,
I have been trying to help my brother who recently bought a used SBEII. I deep cleaned the barrel, and we went out to pattern the gun. It came with a Kicks Gobblin Thunder choke tube. We used Winchester Extended Range 3 inch #6 shells. From this combo we got some "OK" results at best at 40 yards.
Can anyone shed some light on what our next step should be? I will say that we have always been impressed with the Winchester Extended Range shells and would like to keep that in our combo.
Thank you for al your help everyone. It is appreciated.

That's a great gun and should produce some excellent patterns. I find that barrels of 26" (or longer) produce the best patterns but even my 24" in the Benelli do just fine.
Even though you prefer the WXRHD shells, I think you'll find much better patterns with the Hevi-13 shells, if they are available to you. My Benelli guns like the 3" Bronze" shells with 2 oz. of #6 shot best.
I see my best results in my Benellis with either a Wright's #3 turkey choke or with the SSX and those shells. Those chokes also improve the performance of the WXRHD shells substantially.
I hope that helps some.
Thanks,
Clark
Did you perform a search with the SBE II and chokes with WXR? This is the best way to get quick information.
I don't know if the SBE II can accept 3.5" shells, but this would be a way to increase your numbers some. Also, just trial different chokes.
Call Rob Roberts of Gobbler Guns. He does all the performance shop benelli turkey guns ask his opinion. He recently did mine. He set mine up with a Gobbler Gun .660 choke with MagBlends 3.5 2 1/4oz 5,6,7 load. Very very nice pattern. It seems the Benelli SBEs do like a tighter choke. I have a friend shooting a Primos Jellyhead in .655 with Hevi 13 3.5" 6s and it throws a excellent pattern. Try the Hevi 13 shells... you wont be disappointed.
I had the best luck with an Indian Creek .665 and 3.5" 2oz #6 win, xtend range out of my SBEII. It wold put 167-191 in a 10" circle at 40yds. I have tried jellyhead .660, comp-n-choke .658, pure Gold .670,final strut .655 .660 .665 .670 . the indian creek shot the xtend range best, But the final strut .660 and .665 shot H-13 mag blends, #6's and#7's way better. I would try the 3.5" #6 xtend range first if they dont give you good patterns try a different choke.
I have found a full choke and Winchester Xtended range 3.5 5 to be a great combo. Have killed over 40 with this combo from 10 yards to 60.

Here's what I shoot in my SBE2. Hope this helps !
Pick up a pure gold .670 and some hevi shot straight 6s or 7s or some mag blends. I tried I think 5 pr 6 chokes and at least 8 loads in my SBE II before finding the pg and hevi's gave me the best patterns...
I would run something around a 650 in it. It should shoot the Winchester and the HV good.
I get around 300 with 3.5" H-13 #7's through a Pure Gold 0.670" SBEII 29" bbl. Similar results with Nitro straight 7's. Almost as good with Rhino 0.660" or Jelly Head 0.660".

Thank you Clark.
Just one more question. Of the 2 chokes you recommended which would be the better choice? The barrel is 26 inches.
rhino .660 and nitro 4x5x7's work great in my SBEII. the POI was off on my gun shooting high and a little left. put some truglo gobble stopper pro series fiber optics on it and am ready to hit the woods!
I don't know what constriction the choke you tried was, but going tighter might make a world of difference. Myself and four of my buddies are shooting SBEII's and only one of us is shooting a choke over .655.
Try a Rhino .670 or .660
Different shells. Those shells performed the worst in my gun. Get an IC choke as well. I didn't have much luck with the rhino chokes and their customer service is awful.
