After a quiet morning you decide to get up and move to another location. While easing along to your next set-up you walk right up on a longbeard that has no idea your around. He's strutting on a field edge with several hens. He's at 30 yards, do you pull the trigger?
Uhh..... Yea. :fud: :gobble:
Give him the 'ol dirt nap!!
:hello99: :fud: :turkey2:
I wouldn't give it a second thought. If he is in range, I'm pullin the trigger.
:fud: :newmascot:
Put it this way, I'll be breasting him out later.
he would get a free ride in my Chevy truck....
no doubt he would be served a dose of #6 shot :fud: and get a ride in the back of my truck! :z-guntootsmiley:
Without a thought. :fud: :gobble:
I would be having turkey fingers for dinner. :z-guntootsmiley:
No doubt.
LOL, last year I had a tom strutting in my parking spot next to the barn. I parked on the other side. Sneeked around the corner and watched him a while. When he had his fan to me I stepped out and took a cell pick and sent it to my hunting buddy, who I had just gotten off the phone with before I arrived. Finally I eased my shotgun around the corner and when he turned around. CLICK
So the answer is No. Ha Ha.
Probably would let him pass unless I could make him gobble, unless he was a double beard or had some serious hooks.
YES SIR
If he dont see me walking around to him at 30 yards then he needs shot.
YES!
I'd kill him.
I actually had a hunt like this in AL. It was about 11:00 am on a hard day of hunting and I had just walked to the center of a 5 yr old pine plantation that was surrounded by swamps. In the center there was a place called the cross roads where 2 roads crossed. Well I stopped and set down on the edge of the road just to catch my breath. About 5 minutes later I see something out the corner of my eye. It was a long beard running from where I'd just come from. I saw him about the same time he saw me, which was only 9 yards away. Right before he caught flight I rolled him.
If he has a longbeard and is within range I'm tring to kill him.
Heck yeah, I might give alittle mouth call to get him out of strut but other than that " He's a dead bird!"
BOOM

yeah what he said :fud:
Yes sir!
Kevin
That is honestly a question I can not answer until it happens. I have shot birds similar to that situation in the past, and I have passed them up. It depends on A LOT of things, but more of them tend to sway the situation to a dead bird.
Great question.
God Bless,
David B.
I'd shoot him and have him ate in less than a days time. :fud: BOOM !
I'd shoot him.
Absolutely!
Been there done that. I set up blind calling two years ago and after about an hour, no bird. I decided to go hunt some arrow heads. I walked about a hundred yards down the loving road and heard something off to my left. I looked over and low and behold a bird in full strut looking away from me. Up went the gun and he got eaten for dinner. Love some fried turkey
This exact thing happened to me a few years ago...I hunt in an area with very few birds and our seasons are very short..5 to 9 days..I took the shot, and while I was very glad to have gotten a bird, the reason I hunt em "the thrill" wasn't there.I probably wouldn't do it again.

Then you wouldn't stalk a bird either?
Kill him.
Yeah, woodsmanship is part of hunting.

When I move on a bird it's to get in a better position to call him from. Many times that move is done slowly/quietly,if that is what you call a stalk , then yes.But the thrill is in the strutting/gobbling.
He'd be a dead bird, without hesitation. I wouldn't even consider, not shooting him. :fud: :newmascot: Mike
NO!!!!

Well, there seems to be some negative to stalking, but to work your way close enough to get a shot at any animal with superior senses was considered the true sign of a hunter by the American Indian. ;D Of course they were using a bow, which was a bit more challenging.

While I agree that the thrill is in strutting/gobbling, I never pass up an opportunity because I don't get that many each year and I want to make good on every one that I do get.
There is a negative connotation that some people put on stalking, but I think it is nonsense. As Jay said, the American Indian thought that ability was the sign of a true hunter. And while they used bows, they were also as good with them as most guys are with a turkey shotgun.
So to answer the question....... :fud:
:z-guntootsmiley:
There is a negative connotation that some people put on stalking, but I think it is nonsense.
Me 2 it is nonsense.People can think what they want and giving the oppurtunity i will stalk.Perfectly legal and perfectly ethical.
I would. If I got that close without him knowing I was there, I would take the shot. No question.
I would not pull the trigger. I did the same thing once and it didn't settle well with me, just didn't feel like I earned him. Felt like crap about that one for awhile. I would rather go without filling my tag than to tag one like that. If anything, wait til he moves off and reposition to try and call him in.
Absolutely! While hunting does require skill, theres always room for a little luck.
DEFINITELY at 25 yards. 30 is at the max of my range, so I may give him a soft purrrr/cluck to see if I might pull him a few yards closer.

Not really. I figured I knew most peoples answer.
Forty years ago he would have been a dead bird. Then after about ten years it was an at the moment decision. Twenty years ago I might kill him one out of ten chances. Now for about the last ten years killing him don't even cross my mind. It seems like I get a chance or two every year to do it, but now I'd rather watch him walk off and kill him under different circumstances later on.

Same here. Shot one like that and I never got the adrenaline rush or excited feel. Felt bad for taking his life like that instead of playing the game. I dont care if someone else does though as long as they are happy with it :icon_thumright:
First week probly not ,,,, after the first week hes down ,,,
i guess if i needed more of an adrenaline rush i would throw him a few calls and get him to come in to 10 yards
yes...yes...yes...absolutely :z-guntootsmiley: :z-guntootsmiley:
it's called turkey HUNTING!!!!!
Ronnie your making people get sentimental here now. :TooFunny: :TooFunny:
just poking fun.

That is what I was thinking. I am out turkey hunting--no brainer--I'd shoot him.
In the blink of an eye! :fud: :newmascot:
When I go hunting I'm not looking to make friends :fud:
What about you, guesswho? Dead bird or does he live another day?
