Title: NEW .660 Pure Gold in 2012 for smaller shot #7s
Post by: gobbler777 on January 18, 2012, 02:37:30 PM
The Pure Gold website states the following:
**NEW FOR 2012 IN THE STANDARD PORTED VERSION IS THE .660 RESTRICTION.  BEST USED FOR SMALLER PELLET SIZES LIKE #6?s, #7?s AND SOME DUPLEX LOADS WITH THESE COMBO'S.**

I've read some of you highly suggest the Pure Gold .670 for the Winchester 1300 for shooting Hevi Shot #7,s and Mag Blend. Have any of you tried patterning this new .660 restriction for HeviShot #7's? Would it in theory be better for the #7s?

Well I have tried the Rem Ventilator .655 choke and it shoots pretty dang well with the 7's and it doesn't seem to do as good with the larger 6 shot.  In my honest opinion for overall consistency it is too tight.  I myself have had better luck with chokes that was ranging in .668 to .675 for the 7's.  And I would only say the same can be had with the 6's although I shoot 7's mostly.  .670 seems to be just about idea in my opinion for 7 shot.

Every gun is different, but the PG 0.670" consistently patterned better in my SBEII than the JH 0.668", JH 0.660", or Rhino 0.660" with 3.5" 2.25 oz Hevi 7's. That being said I would love to try the PG 0.660"! :you_rock:

I may have another choke to purchase then.

I have a brand new Pure Gold .670 for my 535 just waiting for nice weather.  I have an Indian Creek that's a .660 and it's a great shooter with the #7's.  I'm interested to see what the PG .670 does first, but I imagine I'll have to give the new .660 a try sometime.

I tried an Indian Creek .655 and it shot the 7's pretty well.  But the .668 Indian Creek shot better.  The .665 Indian Creek I didn't like the way it shot the 7's at all in my 870.

But you know that .660 might just be the cats meow for 7 shot.  And it probably still will shoot 6's plenty well.  You just never know until you try it is whatI say.
