Title: numbers for 3" hevi #6 shot??
Post by: reynolds243 on January 13, 2012, 11:52:41 AM
gonna try and pattern some #6 when it warms up a hair, but not sure what numbers most are getting with them in a 3" shell...i shot a bunch of #7 last year so i know the numbers i am looking for and getting in those but just never really looked at numbers for the 6.

I have an IC 665 already and I just had William at sumtoy send me one of his to try in a 670. I happen to get a few boxes of 6 and 7 hevi shot to test out of them and see which one i like more.

i know numbers are a personal choice and anything over 150 is pretty good but trying to get idea of what to expect from #6.

the 7s shoot pretty good at 250 in a 10" at 40yds but seeing what other chokes and shells might be able to do out of my stoeger 2000

I'd say around 180 for a norm.

shot some out of a mossy 500 and was at 212...id say you should see 200+

250 is pretty dern good for the 3" 7s tho

shot blends and 7's last year.. gonna try 6's this year too

if I can get 100+ in 10 at 50 yards I will probably roll with them this year

Well a lot of it will depend on the shell and how small the shot size truly is.

That's why I said 180 for the norm.  You might get some 200.  But I don't think that will be the norm.

But the ones I had may not been the same as the ones they are loading now.  My hunch is they are putting more probably #7's in the ones now to increase the numbers.

When I was shooting them in a 1300 21" pipe with a .675 non-ported Under taker I was averaging 170 and the best I got was 196.

I shoot the Hevi-13 2oz 3"#6's out of my 870, and I use the Hevi SHot choke.  I got 181 in a 10" cirlce at 40 with this set up.

With 3" 1.75 Ounce #6 Hevi13, I got:

159 in an INV+ Star Dot
157 in a RemChoke .665 Pure Gold
155 in a RemChoke .665 Indian Creek

The few 2 Ounce #6's I tried were no better.

The .665 Indian Creek choke gave me 180 with 3" Magnum Blend at 60 degrees, and 294 with 3" Hevi13 #7 at 90+ degrees.

In general, I believe Magnum Blend is as good or better than Hevi13 #6.

Hevi13 #7 puts up crazy numbers.

should have very good numbers, more than enough for a clean kill.

I shot a lot of hevi 13 2oz #6's a few years back using a IC .665 through a Supernova.  I saw an average of 180-195 in the 10" @ 40 yards.  Killed quite a few birds with that setup.

I can't give you exact counts but a .660 rhino in my 3" 11-87 with hevi 7's put up real good numbers. Did great with mag blends too. No reason it shouldn't be a contender with 6's. The way the 7's shot, I had no reason to go to 6's tho.

Yup, if the folks on Old Gobbler don't know your gonna have a hard time finding the information any where else. Best site I have seen for turkey gun information.

*shot 140's-190's Hevi 13 3/2/6's and they all fall over dead.

*shoot 130's out of Beretta 20 gauge and the Hevi 6's. It will lay them down.

I've shot 3in #6 2oz outta Remington 11-87, 20in barrell with a .660 Rhino and got great patterns 185-190. My favorite is the 3in #7 2oz with the JEBs .655, they put up stupid numbers.

I shoot 3" Hevi 6's through a 20" SM and a Pattern master Code Black Turkey....236 @ 40

I am pretty sure the pic is on the pattern forum...if not I still have a pic of it to share with you.

I've gotten 185-190 with the 2oz #6s. I'm shooting them out of an 11-87 with a 20in barrel and a .660 Rhino Choke. I've shot some out of the HEVI-Shot choke and got around the same but with the 1.75oz load. These are both at 40yds in 10in circle. Both will kill birds at 40yds no doubt.

Have you patterned the 2 ounce Hevi-13 #6 thru your 1187/Hevi-Shot choke combo??

few years back I would say 200 all day.  The past two years I would say 180 range.  Now we just shot some 3 inch 7s.  They 240 range so the shells may be back to the good side. lol

I agree with William.  With the early production (first two years) of the gold hull 2 oz., 3" EnvironMetal H13, I averaged 205, 6's in 10" at 40 yards w/ an IC .660 in a King Ferry/Ithaca Turkeyslayer.  Evaluating the "newer" shells in the same gun, I average @ 180.  The "newer" H13, 7's, also exhibit a reduction of @ 10% in 10" from the "older" shells (first year of production of the 7's.)  I sure wish EM would go back to their original gold hull production components despite their claims that, "Nothing has changed."
